Actually a clean shot through the eye is typically the most humane way, shots through the chest tend to not be as clean or quick kills. Fun fact, and definitely the reason we're all here.

ZZ's right as regards where hunters are advised to aim for clean kills. The heart and lungs represent a relatively large and vulnerable kill zone; not everything on the head would constitute a kill shot and skulls are tough to get through. Center mass, not fancy trickshots that you'll most likely miss and leave a deer wandering around with its jaw blown apart.

Guess it just hinges on what's considered "typical." There do exist like professional or semi-professional deer sharpshooters who use infrared or thermal imaging (they're allowed to hunt at night), high-powered rifles, and other assassinish kit to efficiently run culls, and my understanding is that many of those ghostwise motherfuckers routinely take headshots, cuz yeah, if you hit it's a cleaner kill.

But at least nowadays, certainly in the Northeast but I'm pretty sure everywhere, a casual sportsman intentionally trying to make headshots would be see by most conscientious hunters and all qualified hunter education programs as misguided at best, and possibly a worrying ego trip.

Close! I was keeping the "no one [verbs]" form constant, so abrupt doesn't work. I had something like:
