2019 FtF Games

Postby nanooktheeskimo » 29 Jan 2019, 09:05

This is not a complete list, but it's all the tournaments and sources for house games I'm aware of. Most of these are in North America as that's where I have the most info for, but I've included the international games I'm aware of. If you know of a tournament, regular house game, or diplomacy club that isn't included, leave a comment or PM me and I'll get it added!

Tournaments:

Vancouver, BC, Canada, Jan 26-27, Cascadia Open. Contact: Chris Brand (Cascadia.Open@gmail.com)

Aurora, CO, USA,February 23, 11am, GenghisCon. Contact: Manus Hand. (This is one game, not a tournament proper, but in putting it here anyways!)

Marlborough, MA, February 22-24, The Boroughs at TotalCon. Contact: Alan Levin

Macclesfield, Chester, England, March 2-3, MaccCon. Contact: Phlegmatic

Melbourne, Australia, March 16-17, Melbourne Open. Contact: Andrew Goff (acgoff@hotmail.com)

San Jose, CA, USA, April 6-7, Whipping Diplomacy Tournament. Contact: Siobhan Nolen, Adam Silverman, or whipping@bayareadiplomacy.com

Chicago, IL, USA, April 27-28, Weasel Moot. Contact: wcwsneak@gmail.com

Chapel Hill, NC, USA, May 24-26, DixieCon. Contact: David Hood (DavidHood@dixiecon.com)

Boston, MA, USA, June 21-23, Boston Massacre. Contact: Randy Laurence-Hurt or contact@bostonmassacrediplomacy.com

Big Sky, MT, USA, July 12-13, Big Sky. Contact: Craig Mayr (Craig.Mayr@gmail.com)

Philadelphia, PA, USA, August 2-4, Liberty Cup. Contact: Bill Hackenbracht (william.hackenbracht@gmail.com)

Indianapolis, IN, USA, August 2-4, GenCon. Contact: Thomas Haver

Marseilles, France, August 30-September 1, WDC 2019

Seattle, Washington, USA, September 6-8 North American Diplomacy Championship (DipCon) at WACCon. Contact: Nathan Barnes. Website: https://www.dipcon2019.com/ (bit barebones at the moment, but they’ll be updating it!)

Macclesfield, Chester, England, October 5-6, MacCon Fall Edition. Contact: maccdiplomacy@outlook.com or Phlegmatic on Playdip.

Washington, DC, USA, October 11-13, Tempest in a Teapot. Contact: diplist@list.ptks.org, or Rachael (kimpossible on Playdip)

Killington, VT, USA, November 1-3, CarnageCon. Contact: Robert Rousse or Dave Maletsky.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, November 23 - 24, Open European Championship 2019. Contact: Claesar@gmail.com

House Games and Clubs
(These are groups that organize house games, some more frequently than others)

Australia/NZ: http://daanz.org/email_zines.htm (mailing list)

Bay Area (San Francisco-ish), USA: Bay Area Diplomacy Association

Chicago, USA: Windy City Weasels

Connecticut, USA: They don't have a snazzy name, but Hunter Katcher is their organizer and the snazziness of that name kinda sorta almost makes up for it.

Detroit, USA: Another group without a snazzy name. Contact Durga on here or on Webdip for more info (probably have better luck on WebDip).

London, England: London Diplomacy Club

Netherlands: Yet another group without a snazzy name, sheesh.

Ontario/Quebec, Canada: Some of you are just really averse to snazzy names, aren’t you?

Washington, DC: Potomac Tea and Knife Society (diplist@list.ptks.org)

There’s stuff in Vancouver, Canada. PM me for Chris Brand’s email if you’re interested.

I've heard there's stuff in Colombus, Ohio, but I haven't been able to track down any contact info or a meetup or something like that for them. If you can find a way to do so, Tom Haver is probably the person to talk to about that, but I don't have contact info for him.

If you’re interested in playing FtF but you’re not sure how to get in touch with people, Cisco spark is a very useful tool. It’s a persistent chat platform where a lot of FtF organizing happens. PM DQ on Playdip with an email address and ask him to add you to the spark, and I’m sure he’ll be happy to oblige!

If you know of more tournaments that I've missed or house game groups that I haven't included, tell me! My hope for this list is to make it as easy as possible for people to find a game if they're interested in playing.

Vancouver, BC is probably still pretty active for house games, and I would guess the local contacts would be Chris Brand or John Jamieson (possibly some others as well).

You have my interest! I'm busy now, but during the Summer, I'd probably drop in once or twice!

This is an AAR from the recent Weasel Moot FtF tournament in Chicago. There are several on their site, all worth checking out, but I thought this one might be of particular interest given that it was written by a woman attending her first FtF tournament and playing her third or fourth FtF game, ever. I won’t spoil the result, but suffice to say it’s very impressive. Definitely worth a read!
