Face-to-Face Dip + Versailles - Midcon 18/19 November

Postby Big Gun » 05 Nov 2017, 20:12

The 38th MidCon Games Convention will take place from 17 – 19 November in Derby (East Midlands).

We have five definite players for Diplomacy on the Saturday and Sunday and we're looking for two more for Saturday and ideally three more for Sunday.

Game start Saturday is 10am and we'll play with a lunch-break until about 5pm. Afterwards curry and beer.

On Sunday we'll play from 10am - 3pm without a lunch-break. I'm offering everyone the opportunity to try out a live game of the variant Versailles, for which I have created a large (size A1) game board. I will bring armies and fleets for the 14 nations in different 14 colors. If we can get 7 players for Versailles then I will not play myself, but rather GM the game and give everyone who needs it a short introduction to the rules of Versailles. I think GM-ing the game could be the best way to keep the secrecy of the major/minor pairings at least in the initial stages.

Please post in this thread or PM me if you’re interested. Everyone welcome! Even on short notice, just show up there and join us!

Cheers

How does ftf Versailles work?

Good question! With a GM! I think if every player uses the same kind of cards for writing their orders (DQ was giving out these at WDC this year) and write orders for major and minor units separately, then the identities of minors can be held secret for a while. Otherwise I guess the rest of the game functions in the same way as standard dip.

But how do minor powers negotiate?

If we don't end up getting 7 on one of the days, would anyone be interested in playing Game of Thrones: The Board Game? I have a copy which I've only been able to play once, since it takes a long time (as Diplomacy does).
I've now lost so many tournaments I can no longer fit them in my signature.

I always wanted to play that. I'm in if it comes to it.

I've managed to convince one of my friends to come along on the Saturday, so we'll hopefully have 7 on that day. I'll bring along GoT both days just in case though.

Good man Captain! And this evening I finished creating the Versailles board. I'be bought some additional spare pieces for all of the minor powers via eBay so we're set to play Versailles too if we get 7 volunteers.

See you on Saturday!

Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know one of our players, Greg, from the London Diplomacy Club can't make it until between 10.30am - 11.00am on the Saturday, as he's travelling in from Wales.

So I'd like to suggest we meet at 10.30am and get ready to start latest at 11am.

I'm bringing 2 boards (just in case there's more interest) and the Versailles board for Sunday.

Please confirm this is all ok with you.
