Layered: AARs

This is the spot to leave your AARs. Any and all comments are welcome! I hope everyone enjoyed the game, despite the occasional bump. I know I liked GMing it, although it was also a challenging game to manage. Would love to hear from as many of you as possible!

Hey everyone, I might write a more thorough AAR later, but for now just my impressions throughout the game.

As Russia I always go for the Juggernaut. An R/T alliance is just so powerful at sweeping the board, and I find it rare that the other powers can get enough of a defense together. I reached out to Sjg, who was happy to Juggernaut, made some opening greetings to Austria, although I'd decided to attack him before the game started, unless there was a huge difference between him and Turkey in communicativeness, which there wasn't. There are 2 attacks I'll do almost regardless of anything else: attack Russia as Germany, and attack Austria as Russia. I was Russia in this game, and so Austria was in trouble.

My plans worked, and I got the lion's share of Austria. Italy got a good chunk of him too, while Turkey got the Balkans. Unfortunately, England decided to break our agreement of no convoying to Norway, and I got embroiled in a long, drawn out fight that ended up not going so well for me.

Thankfully, my alliance with Turkey and Italy held, although there were a few seasons where I was VERY nervous about a Turkish stab. Italy lost to France, and I told Turkey to cut him loose. Somehow I managed to make peace with England, without even ceding all that much. I think that peace was the turning point for me. England had Scandinavia and was wearing me down in both Stps. With the peace, it gave me time to reposition, and hopefully even survive a Turkish stab if it were coming.

I wasn't planning on stabbing England until Germany told me he was willing to help me into a bunch of English centers. I couldn't say no to the possibility of a 5-10 build season, which worked nicely.

At the time of the game end, I think I was the only one with decent solo chances, but with the surrender of France, I was unlikely to hit that magic number. Plus a solo at that point would have felt hollow if it were based on a major power surrendering, so I proposed the draw.

Great game all, thanks for trusting me Sjg, it ended up working out great for the both of us!

Condude, it wasn't really about trust. I knew I had your head over a barrel if I wanted to shoot. It's just England and France were allied so me stabbing you... would have left me at the mercy of England and France. A position I did not want to be in. Hence the lack of a stab.

If France had stabbed England (and I did suggest this to France)... then I stab you.

Yeah, I knew that that was a precarious position for me, hence the truce with England at the first possible opportunity. Once I made peace with him, a war between us wasn't so terrible for me. At the point the game ended, I think I could have dealt with a stab from you, if for no other reason then the fact that I had at least 8-10 units able to swivel to the Southern front after my 7 build season.
