Layered Diplomacy : STARTING ON SATURDAY

Postby Pedros » 24 Dec 2012, 11:43

Joint top of my poll, so it's a sign-up race with Indians of the Great Lakes. Two regular maps on top of each other, start with standard three units on each, each territory connects to the same one on the other map. Later - Layered has it. With two layers but players owning different countries on each. Sorry to those hoping for Indians!

There's a two-edged option but I'm not pushing for it, just willing to go with it if players want to. That is to have three layers instead of two. Edge one - the middle layer connects with each of the others; edge two - each connects with each other (it's pure guesswork, but I suspect the first of those would be better.) If we go for either of these then only regular DVFG players will be allowed in - too much chance of misorders for those not used to playing here.

So sign-ups here please. If you want to play one version or another please say, if you wouldn't play any of them, please say. If you don't, I'll assume you're happy with any.

Blind auction so no discussing preferences please

I would expect to play this with deadlines 3-1-1 and to start by New year if we have a full roster.

I'd like to play! Either version works, although I'd prefer it with three layers where they all connect.

Well, I said I'd play, so I'd better sign up!

I'm in favor of rolling with just two maps.

Almost no difference, but for completeness:-

The only difference between Standard and Layered Diplomacy is the gameboard. Layered Diplomacy is played on two standard Diplomacy maps stacked in two layers, one on top of the other. So, in addition to the normal two dimensional movement, there is a third dimension.

The two layers are labeled "1" and "2" for simplicity and all territories are refered to in the same way with the addition of a "1" or "2" to the end of the name. Thus, there exists a "mun1" and a "mun2."In order to provide smooth game play, there are a few unique aspects to Layered Diplomacy:

1) All boundaries remain the same for each territory, except there is exactly ONE more adjacent area either above or below. Support is given in the same way and you can support a unit from one board to the other using the same algorithm as in normal Diplomacy. You may also convoy between boards. The key thing to remember is that each territory has only one adjacent territory on the other board and that adjacent territory only differs by the number found at the end of it.

2) Each player plays the same power on each board.

3) Units may be built on either board with no consideration given to which board the SCs where captured on, but can still only be built in an unoccupied home centers.

4) Victory conditions are 35 SCs.

Glad to reserve (I'd love to play), but I've got vanishing and a Mafia game that I'm GMing coming up (and the Mafia game requires heavy programming time...)

Aw - come on connect4. You know you want to!

However, Reserve it is.

I'd love 3 layers, all adjacent. In no matter what though.
