Rules and map

Postby Pedros » 31 Dec 2011, 17:27

This is the easy one. The rules are absolutely standard Dip. No exceptions, and not even a space with two coasts! There have been five games on site, so there's plenty of material to research (although game 3 never really got going.) There is also an early strategy article by the designer Geoff Bache at http://www.diplom.org/Zine/F1996M/Bache/heptarchy.html - but beware; at the time of writing only a handful of games had been played, and the majority were on an earlier version of the map which seems to have shifted the balance. Victory target: 19 SCs

The map is straightforward, except that it gets tightly packed around the centre of England. I recommend saving the current map to desktop and using software to look at it, so that it can be enlarged where necessary (it's what I do with all the games I'm playing anyway!)

I think this is probably my favourite variant of all. Enjoy!

Questions about the map:
There is an Walsish supply center in CDF, but the army is in Gwo or what it's called (really hard to see that name acctually). Is that planned?
Also, the armies and fleets, what are they reall? The fleets have a slight similarity to an ship, but to an snail to. And what are the armies, a pouch?

Armies are ancient dudes behind a shield.

And the ships are the old-school ships with one main sail

Thanks for raising this Giriom.

The army in Gwent (Gwe) should be in Cardiff - I don't know how that slipped through!

The units are the best I've managed to find to represent armies and ships of the time; I realise they're not easy to see often at present - the dense nature of the Heptarchy map is always a problem. But stay with it - this is a game seriously worth playing.

I've moved that rogue unit back to Cardiff Giriom.

It's high time I reworked this map - enlarging it slightly to reduce the crowding in the midlands and also improving the names. I'll begin work on that, but no promises how long it will take - the Admin in getting the tournament going has swamped me this last week!

The re-worked map is now in the opening post. It's 50% larger than before, which makes the centre of the map less crowded but means it may be harder to view - again I recommend downloading it each phase to your desktop; pretty well any grahics viewing programme will let you enlarge it at will.

And all the names are in full (apart from S[outh] Pennines) - which pleases me greatly. Most of these areas I love!

Ummm

The map does not look any different to me...
