Chicago Diplomacy Tournament - 9-11 September, Weasel Moot V

Postby pyeargin » 06 Jun 2011, 18:36

The Windy City Weasels Chicago Diplomacy club is back with their biggest annual club event, Weasel Moot V. This year's tournament will take place September 9-11 in Chicago, IL, back at their old favorite location, the Days Inn in Lincoln Park, Chicago. This year's event is also a precursor to next year as the club prepares to host the World Championships at the Club Room in the downtown Loop area. The club is extremely excited about both events and hope you can find time to attend.

There are special hotel room rates and limited local crash space will also be available for those travelers looking for an easier time on the wallet. The club is also expecting a good contingent of travelers again this year including Melinda Holley, Don Williams and perhaps a group from Seattle for the first time ever.

We are expecting a total of 35-50 players for this year's tournament and would love to have any new players from the online community attend. The group also has the most active North American local face to face scene in the hobby and normally hosts house games 2-3 times per month. If you are unable to attend the tournament or are just looking for a local game, please visit our website at http://www.windycityweasels.org for more specific information.

Check out all the tournament details on the website:

http://www.windycityweasels.org/wm5

The Weasel Moot tournament is an annual event put on by the local Chicago Diplomacy club as part of the North American Diplomacy Grand Prix circuit. The Grand Prix consists of 10-12 North American events per year and is run by the North American Diplomacy Federation (NADF). More information can be found at the NADF homepage, including information on other local clubs and Diplomacy organizations in North America. The homepage is http://www.thenadf.org.

Look forward to seeing everyone this year.

Regards,

Windy City Weasels Sneak

Hey,

I wished this was in July instead.

Chicago is our "home base" (my wife and I are international teachers) even though I am from New Orleans and she is from Detroit.
We will be spending the first two weeks of July and the first week in August in the Chicago area. I would love to about playing a live face to face game. I am a newbie.

Hey Pike,

Too bad you can't make the tournament, but we do have three games in the beginning of July as well as our annual Diplomacy "housecon" out in the suburbs of Chicago on August 13th. The three games in July are 7/3, 7/6 and 7/9. We'd love to have you out to one of the games if you can make it. Feel free to reply to this post and I can give you more information about any or all of those dates. The game on 7/3 is in a local bar in the Lakeview area of Chicago (Guthrie's Tavern) and the other two are house games hosted by a couple of the club members.

Thanks!
Peter

Hey Peter,

We will definitely be in Chicago for all three of those dates. At this time, I cannot commit to a specific date. I am little preoccupied by the end of the school year stuff, plus we are packing up to leave Dubai for good- transferring to a new school in Beijing.

I know the bar in Lakeview. When I first moved to Chicago I used to live off of Damen and Diversey.

If it came down to choosing, which of the games would be the best fit for me.

Regards,

Pike

I'd love to get involved in one of these at some point, but I'm uncertain whether or not I'd be able to attend this one. How close is Lincoln Park to Loyola Chicago?

It's an easy ride on the red line. No more than 15 minutes to the Belmont stop, then about a six-block walk to the Days Inn Chicago at Diversey and Clark. Or you can switch to the Brown line at Belmont, take that to Diversey, and walk about 3 1/2 blocks to the Days Inn.

Weasel Moot is just 11 days away. If anyone has questions, send me a message or post here. We're expecting a good turnout. It's looking like five boards per round. If some of you join us, we could get up to six. You can find more info, including a list of attendees, here: windycityweasels.org/wm5.
