Order of the Dragon
A New Variant for Ten Players in the Fifteenth Century

Image

Introduction
This variant has been long-in-coming. I started some (very early) work on it in 2014, set the project aside, and then returned to it after co-creating Saga of the Nine with Aeschines.

Order of the Dragon Rules PDF

These rules will be transcribed to a forum post eventually. Note that the rules of Order of the Dragon (OOD) are very nearly the same as those for Saga of the Nine.
Saga of the Nine Rules v1.1

Scheduling & House Rules
The scheduling and house rules will be similar to those I've used in previous games, and they can be found here:

NoPunIn10Did's PbF / Discord House Rules

In short, orders will be due every Monday and Thursday at 7:00 PM New York Time (EDT) in a three-season rotation: Spring, Autumn, & Winter. Two game-years will normally take three weeks.

Communication and orders will be handled via Discord. Please use the designated private channels that I will set up in the Discord server for your given country. I will also accept forum PMs for orders in a pinch. The Discord server we will be using will also be hosting other games, including a tournament next year (in which OOD will be played).

Draws must include all survivors and are voted on secretly using standing draw votes.

In the event of a solo, there will be one winner and nine losers.

In the event of a draw, I will rank all surviving and eliminated players by total SC count, year of elimination, and picking order (later is better, see below). The size of the draw will be irrelevant. As this isn't an a scored game in actuality, there are no points attached to that rank; it's listed instead for posterity and to discourage draw-whittling.

If the game doesn't terminate after 10 game-years (cycles), I will forcibly end it in a draw. Because the game starts in 1405, and each cycle is approximately 5 years, the game will end no later than after the 1450 Autumn Retreats phase.

Assignments: The Paris Method
Country selection will be handled via an amended version of the Paris Method. Once signups complete, I will give each player a random "rank" as if you'd been playing in a tournament. This rank is not the same as your picking order; rather it is the order in which you set your picking order. Further details will be provided in Discord.

Rank will not matter in the event of a solo (18 SCs). However, as with 1900, a soloist must also have the most SCs of any player, with no ties. If there is a tie for the top spot, the game continues. If there is a tie for the top at the end of Autumn 1450, the game will end in a draw, even if both of the tied players have at least 18 centers.

Players will pick from the following ten powers:
  1. Burgundy (slate)
  2. Castile (maroon)
  3. England (pink)
  4. Golden Horde (teal blue)
  5. Hungary (red)
  6. Kalmar Union (lemon yellow)
  7. Lithuania (vivid blue)
  8. Mamluks (orange-yellow)
  9. Naples (pale grey)
  10. Ottomans (green)

Recruitment

I've somehow managed to recruit a full roster for this game just by hyping it on Discord. So this first game is actually already filled. HOWEVER, because it has been so popular, I will very likely start a second game to run concurrently, assuming I can get the players.

If Game 2 happens, I'd be glad to join.

I'm willing to fill up the roster for Game Two if still available. I've been very busy of late and off Discord, but have a hunch I might have 3-10 weeks of free time coming soon... 8-)

When Star Wars: Order 66 II is also recruiting? I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed.

Excellent. I will very likely need you. I’ll be confirming via Discord in the next few days.
