I think that's most of it. I wasn't directly involved as I never bordered any of his units but I initially encouraged Wales and Cornubia to band against him to keep him off the continent and then later spread alarm about the Whiskey Alliance that had developed between him and Scotland. The fear is that he'd easily become a super-England with the potential to completely control the Western seas. If that's allowed to happen and if he gets a foothold on the mainland of Britain he'd become really dangerous.

IDon'tPlay stopped answering any messages (I eventually sent 4 in a row over 2 - 3 years without reply) so I never got a great feel for his objectives. He might have been able to get me to coordinate with him on an attack with one of his enemies but never tried.

Question for you guys. When I was part of a draw as Northumbria I had 3 starting armies rather than starting with a fleet. I lobbied after the game for Northumbria to keep these starting armies for a couple of reasons:

1. It discourages an early attack on Ireland
2. It offers more flexibility
3. It forces Mercia to play differently

Do you guys think this would have made a difference in your game? If so, do you think that difference would have been an improvement?

In my opinion, I think a fleet is a good thing.
An early attack on Ireland is more flexible...and Northumbria has the option of attacking Wales via sea, thus possibly being able to pin them down.
Yes it would force Marcia to play different, but it would really give Ireland sea supremacy. I felt as though Ireland was a huge threat, and was trying to rally up the fleets of Northumbria, Cornubia, and myself to stop them....also Scotland, who plain out lied.

So yes, it would have changed the game a ton, maybe in a good way, but I think it is a more diplomatic starting position the way it is now. Three armies would make a major problem for Marcia who could be ganged up on by just about everyone anyway.

Maybe I'm bias... but those are my thoughts.

When I was playing as Northumbria in this game, I found the fleet little better than useless when compared to an army. I have only played one game, and I did face attacks from both the North and South, but my experience has made me feel that an army would've been more useful.

If I wanted to attack Ireland, I would wait until either Scotland was defeated or Mercia reduced as a threat. I see little use in an Irish expedition for Northumbria at the beginning of the game.
