Did you just cobble together Beauty and the Beast and middle school Spanish, or is French a lot closer to Splatin than I thought?

His french seems pretty legit. In written form it isn't all that hard to understand if you have a bit of a romance background. (I've lived in Montreal for 7 months now, and after 5 years of high school Spanish, I can read most of the signs & have no idea what they are saying.)

Also, as the leader ofone of the only French-speaking countries you should know the differences between French and Spanish. French is a very nice language
