Hi all,

New player here, although I've done things a little back to front as I've just completed my first game here.

My wife recently bought me the board game for my birthday, and while I haven't managed to persuade the necessary 7 participants to do a game, just reading the rules was enough to get me hooked, especially once I found that people play this online.

I'm still very new to the hobby - I played a few gunboat games to learn the rules, and recently played in my first press game here.

Seems like a great game and community, so I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with you all.

It's a wonderful hobby indeed! I hope you'll find (as I have) that online play is enough, on its own, to make you a Diplomacy addict.

The opportunities to play face to face are frankly few and far between in most regions, although with the current crisis, there's been a lot of hybrid play (people playing through websites while also having voice calls to discuss moves).

In any case, PlayDiplomacy is a great place to come to for the community.

Would love to play a face to face game with six others one day. Where are you in England?

We have been trying to build a f2f community over the last few years. We had (prior to covid) about 6 meets in Derby and Macclesfield. Including myself, Big Gun, Dib, Pootleflump, Phlegmatic, captainmeme, Caladrius, and several others from around and about. Also engaged in a zoom game. Keep an eye on the forum.

Floridaman , I've been trying to absorb as much information I can and have enjoyed some of your youtube videos (particularly the strategic maxims).

Selhurst, Strategus - I'm based in East Anglia, at some point post-covid I would probably take part in a f2f game, south east England or east midlands would probably both be possible. I imagine I'll be better with online play though as I'm not a quick thinker and prefer time to contemplate my plans.

I am from the midlands, and there are other players in our group in the midlands, north west, London and the south east, Scotland, and others from across the water. The format and time constraints make things challenging in different ways. Personally, I think the f2f events are as much about meeting people we see online, and sharing a drink and meal etc in the evenings.
