That's indeed very sad news. A few very consistent players have disappeared lately while surrendering their games, and with the whole corona crisis it always makes me wonder...

May he rest in peace.

I am tearing up, I lament one I did not know,

I rise to see, who, who still stands with me
the mist clears, I wipe my eyes
Shyvve, dear god the bullets, you struggle on
I see the flag, I rise among the dead
I rise ... I rise ... death has no grip on me
Kiss the flag Shyvve, for I follow you and kiss it to ... wait for me, Shyvve
You don't know me, but I do you, grasp my hand as you slip into the night
We here, on this site, hold you tight as you slip away,
.... we will follow our brother into the night ... and sister to
... for here we are all one, ... were are you Shyvve, ... you are in our heart
We die a little, we die with a little with you.
Kiss the flag Shyvve, we kiss you too ...

Josey Wales ... circa .. I wish I never did
If you are gonna fight, then fight like you are the third monkey on the ramp to Noah's ark … and brother, it just started to rain

I feel like I should post, but I really don't know what to say. Obviously I never actually KNEW the guy; I played a handful of online games against him on this site and that's it. But I felt like I did know him to an extent; as many others here have commented his style and personality were such that he made each game he played enjoyable and was very fun to play with. Indeed my favourite ever game on this site was with @AleBelly and @Shyvve, and for giving me moments like that he will be sadly missed from my corner of the world.

This is terribly sad news indeed.

Shyvve and I never met nor played a game together but we knew each other well from our joint roles as site moderators for the Classicist group.

He was, as others have said, someone who saw the good in so much and whose opinion you knew you could respect on the game or otherwise, the kind of guy you always want in your corner.

The site was richer for his input not least for his enthusiastic mentoring of new players and is poorer for his untimely passing.

RIP Shyvve, you will be much missed by all your friends at PlayDip.

This is very sad news. Shyvve (Tom) was in one of the first games I played last year, he was very helpful in helping an inexperienced player like me get to grips with the game and the website. I also played in one of his last matches, which he suddenly abandoned; we knew that wasn't like him, so it had to be serious. He was such a strong advocate for the game, mentoring others and promoting the 'Classicist' i.e. never missing a turn or quitting for no reason. He will be greatly missed!

My deepest sympathies to his family and friends.

So sad...  I had the privilege of playing 5 games with him, which are some of my most memorable games to date.

I had couple of fun games with Shyvve. Recently there was an oldies game, he was France, I was Italy. He succumbed to the GI alliance but went down fighting to the end with dignity. A great opponent.

@alebelly I trust you can pass on all the sentiments of esteem to his family, it may be some comfort to them.

Oh man, this really, really sad. Tom, you were far too young to leave us, but I hope you are resting in peace, and soloing every Dip game you enter in the beyond.

My first ranked game on this site was on Oldies game with Tom, he was France and I was England, and I was essentially brand new to the game (@AleBelly was in that game also). I had little idea of what was happening, but I learned a ton from Tom's thoughtful messages, which included long explanations of strategy and "the bigger picture". The game was a couple of years ago, so the messages are gone now, but I'll never forget how encouraging he was when I felt I made a strategic blunder early in the game.

Take care friend! You are greatly missed around these parts!

I'm not much for words. But I can say Shyvve will be greatly missed. We enjoyed eight games together and every one was a pleasure. Every time we talked he was riding his lawn mower. RIP Shyvve.

Wow, what a terrible loss. I wish I had met him. Thanks for sharing such heartfelt memories of a man with a big heart. There are some great people to meet and Diplomacy is just the excuse for human interaction and connection. It sounds like Shyvve epitomized that ethos.
