Welcome.
The PDL that V mentioned has already started, and some players are have already started their 2nd of 4 games. However, there is an alternate list for fill-ins as some people may drop.
But I would recommend just going to the "join" link under games, and looking for any new game that doesn't require a password or premium membership. You can sort by turn duration and other variables to find the type of game you are looking for. Try out a game or two and decide if you want to go premium or not. Premium memberships allow you to play on alternate maps, alternate scenarios, and with special rules. Otherwise, you can stick with the standard free membership and play just classic Diplomacy.
Once you start a game, as a tabletop player, you may prefer the menu-based entry in the bottom right corner of the map, but I also came here as a tabletop player and I not only have gotten used to the map-entry (clicking directly on the map itself), but I actually prefer it now. Just be forewarned that there is a chance of entering incorrect orders on the map. Of course, there are mistakes and then there are "mistakes", and the intentional illegal order has a long tradition in tabletop. Also note that, in my experience, the map-entry appears to work better on a computer vs my phone, because my phone has a lag between when I enter the orders and the website recognizes them. So there really is a chance for mistakes (no air quotes).
Good luck.
