Introduction: Hello I'm Amy

Hello everyone, :)

I'm Amy (amy.frost). I have been playing Diplomacy for a while but only fairly recently on playdiplomacy.

Other games I play include Advance Wars, Memoir '44, Overwatch, Arkham Horror The Card Game, Android Netrunner, Dice Masters, and Hearthstone

Advance Wars and Diplomacy - both strategic turn-based games - are by far my favourite games of all time (tabletop, digital, or otherwise), and you'll can also find me playing at Advance Wars By Web https://awbw.amarriner.com/

Besides games, I have a deep passion for history, in particular US History, Roman History, British History, French History, and Japanese History (and I like to spend my free time watching related documentaries on Youtube while I await for the next game message to reach me lol :D )

I think that's it really...

Hello!

Welcome! I am new as well. I enjoy Memoir '44. I have wanted to play Arkham Horror TCG but haven't had the opportunity yet, what do you like about it? How easy is it to play?

Welcome Amy!

Used to play a lot of Hearthstone myself, an ideal game to play while watching tv! ;) I like Overwatch too, although I don't own the game.

I think there's a lot of history enthusiasts here too, my go-to before falling asleep is usually history stuff on youtube on the tv. Any recommendations on channels?

Hello YggBjorn,

Arkham Horror TCG is absolutely amazing and very easy to play! There is a really good video tutorial about it on Youtube that Phantasy Flight put out to learn how to play so I suggest you have a look at it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzliu_-xNNQ

It is a cooperative game - so everybody plays together against the game - and I really like it because:

- it's easy to play and understand what's going on
- the story driven element is very strong
- the theme comes out extremely strongly too so you feel engaged in the game
- the chosen character that you choose can be greatly customised with your deck of cards giving you a strong sense of ownership
- also, as your character evolves as the games go on, along with the story being affected by the choices you make, you always get this sense of wow discovery well alive

Also on BGG (board game geek), the definitive and move visited board game website on the internet (by a substantial margin), it is ranked as the best Horror board game of all time and the best Customizable board game of all-time (a category that would include games like Magic the Gathering).

Hey Martz and thanks for the kind words,

I think my recommended channels would be:

1) Kings and Generals
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMmaBz ... qaBJjkj0fw
(such a large collection and covers pretty much every conflict)

2) Extra Credits
https://www.youtube.com/user/ExtraCreditz
(great great great collections of in depth videos; funny too!)

3) BazBattles
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCx-dJo ... oY9qodykvw
(similar channel to Kings and Generals but I get the feeling they cover battles that receive less attentions than other channels (probably as a way of setting themselves apart))

4) Epic History TV
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvPXiK ... q-80vpgmKQ
(they have some amazing videos about Napoleonic battles)

5) Historia Civilis
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCv_vLH ... R9vbeuiY-A
(I really like the videos about Roman history there)

If you want to find out about a surprising figure that may have been the greatest sea admiral of all time, I recommend you watch the series of videos on Extra Credits about Korean Admiral Yi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ieaDfD_h6s
:D

What about yourself, got any recommendations for me?

Hi Amy, and welcome to Playdip.

Not sure if you are UK based, or close by. If you are ever interested in face to face dip, a group of us are re-vitalising this in the UK. See below link:

https://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=60260

Otherwise, I am also into a lot if board games, mostly coop or solo. I have Arkham Horror card game. Strictly speaking this is a LCG not CCG, and if you like that you will love the Lord of the Rings LCG. I also have Eldritch Horror board game, with quite a few expansions. If you have a big dining table you can play that with 1-8 players, and that is my favourite horror genre game

At the moment I am playing Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth (1-5 players), which is a scenario based game with character development. Not too heavy from a rules perspective, but quite challenging.

I have probably about 30 solo or coop games, and if you are interested, I can post a list of my faves (so far).

Good luck!

Hey Strategus,

Yes I am UK based :) . Macclesfield is a bit far for me though...

I would love to see your list, as you appear to be a big Board Game enthusiast like me :D

They are not all in Macc. The idea to to tour, and York is one later in the year. Not sure if one in the south as well. Anyway, we are in Macc later today, so I will post my list on Monday.

Hello both new people!

I'm relatively new to Diplomacy and would definitely recommend MaccCon as a face-to-face event.

Otherwise, I'm enjoying the very real version of Pandemic that everyone seems to be playing currently...

If I need to self-isolate, I promise to treat you all to A LOT of stuff about British political history 1832-1914.

You're welcome.
