gsmx: Undisputed KING of Online Diplomacy

Postby gsmx » 19 Jul 2017, 20:15

Far be it from me to ever boast about any accomplishments, but this one seems worth mentioning.

As of today I am simulatantiously both the #1 PlayDiplomacy All-Games Champion and #1 ranked WebDiplomacy player.

Just watch out for Floyd Mayweather!
Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught.

I would argue that online play takes more Diplomacy skill than face-to-face.

Face-to-face is all well and good, but the tight time schedule changes the game immensely, and I don't think for the better. Sure, there are people who are good at particular tactics like monopolizing their opponents' limited negotiation time, but I find online games more satisfying because there is time for extended discussion and "beautiful" moves. The face-to-face game is largely an exercise in stamina and time management; while these are skills, I don't think they prove you're a better player of the game than someone else.

One of the reasons this was one of my prouder moments on the site:

Undisputed KING of [playing obscure solo-increasing variants] of Online Diplomacy [like Build Anywhere, Milan, Fog of War!]

Fun Fact: gsmx has played 30 Build Anywhere games on the site, and these account for 19 gsmx solos. 83% of gsmx build anywhee games result in a solo to someone (usually to him).

That said, gsmx is on my Diplomacy World Cup Team, he's proven to be way better than me, and I'm just jealous.

I think next year Conq is going to go to the WDC next year, so we'll see how it does. If he manages to win it all then by Transitive Law i'm automatically better then all of them and save myself a plane ticket and hotel room.
