"wwwowz thzs sfuff iz preeti goad"

The bartender, a young man with the slight accent from one of the Caribbean islands, smiles. Of all the delegates, this one seems to handle the open bar with the widest difference between his enthusiasm and abilities. Not like the Venusians - they didn't even need military grade nannites to process their alcohol intake.

"Don't get to drink often?" He asks Patrick, before sliding a drink over to one of the minor Venusian representatives, who downed the stiff drink with ease.

---------------------

Councilor Mariam barely repressed a sigh, as she stepped back from a short conversation with one of the hotel's staff. The announcement by the Ceonian representative had left everyone confused and shocked - for a peace conference, it certainly had devolved into mass protests and a declared war rather quickly. Though, perhaps from a view of world peace and liberation, the disintegration of the Cyborg Pact would not be unwelcome...

For an instant, she noticed a figure approaching, another delegate - but before he reached her, she felt a communication channel request it - the escort. For the next half minute, she engaged in a silent dialogue with the professional - luckily, with this many important diplomats, they'd managed to get their hands on a squad of Guards to oversee the safety of the conference - and authorized the deployment of another dozen unarmed millitia. This was turning out to be *quite* the headache - particularly with the ill-advised Domuian mob/demonstration...

Repressing another sigh, her eyes refocused towards the nearby man, and she gave him a practiced smile. "Yes?" She asked the Pacifican representative in an easy voice. "I don't believe we've met yet."

------------------

Wei made an angry growl, and shoved the tall cyborg back. His column that had led the march to Remembrance Park had arrived a half hour ago - and joined by another pair of local communes from the docks that had turned out. Already, there were starting to be some passer bys in the Ruins that were trickling in to joint he growing crowd - it'd have only taken another quarter hour of fiery speeches, and the organized protestors would have been an imposing block marching on the site of the conference, angrily demanding the removal of the Domuians who plotted the conquest of the city - or, barring that, threatening a recall of the councillors who had considered it a good idea to host this farce.

But things hadn't gone smoothly. A smaller protest had decided to barrel in to the monument of the ruin and devastation that Domuia - and its vassal 'Cooperative' - brought to the world, brandishing signs with the names of dead Domuians killed by their own forces during the ancient war. Of all the places the tin cans could choose to go... For an instant the cold, rational part of his brain whispered that there could be no more fraught emotional symbol than the cybermen *here*, in Remembrance Park...

And then the primal, angry part of his mind returned to the fore, and he made a pair of rude gestures at the tin can in front of him. "Why don't you get the hell out of here, toaster? Your own allies don't even like you." he snarled, the confrontation repeated dozens of times in the swirl of the twin protests turning towards each other. The Cooperative contingent was smaller - already smaller, before more started approaching to see what the altercation was about. Normally, those in that smaller crowd with the cyber body would have a marked edge in strength over their counterparts - but coming from the Docks, construction/civilian suits were not uncommon, and several dozen of the smaller variants could be seen hulking their way through to the fore - along with what appeared to be a handful of unarmed militia suits, plasma skin rippling to life. Wei and his comrades were not unorganized - they'd long had specific 'defenders of the revolution' in attendance for their protests ('enforcers', as others would call them) and these knew where their place was in case this confrontation turned violent.

And above the brewing confrontation, the three towering, wrecked gleaming metal buildings stood watch over what had been supposed to be a day of peace and prosperity - in a situation not so different from the time, decades past, where they'd been toppled and blasted apart...

A young South American man watched with interest as the peace conference began to crumble. There were demonstrations in the square, riots, and, as far as he had heard, even a declaration of war (or two? One could never be certain when relying so heavily on rumors.)

The man, whose name was Alexander Quelleres, walked calmly to the front of the hotel. "Hello there!" He said in a cheerful voice. "I am a representative, but I'm afraid no one really knows about my... Organization. I represent the free peoples of Ceona. I believe we are known as the People's Alliance of Ceona, yes? I would like to speak with the Venusian Ambassador, please. It's quite urgent. If you speak with the UMC delegate and inform him that I am here to make a deal, I'm sure they will oblige."

The People's Alliance had been called many things in the past. They had tried to enact economic change for centuries. Before, if course, the leaders had been greedy. They had wanted it all for themselves. Times had changed, though, and now the organization was run by the people. No, they weren't really the same as the old group at all.

(UMC delegate or the Venusian one? Both are mentioned back to back)

The idea is since it's in the UMC, the UMC delegate should be informed that the new arrival wishes to speak with the Venusians and who he is. I suppose the assumption is that the UMC delegate will likely want to talk first (and there are things to say), even if the main goal is to ultimately meet with the Venusian.

(Ah. Well, in this case you'd be put through to the Venusian delegate after a quick security check off camera/story focus, without needing to go through a UMC delegate actually. But I'm fine with going through me first if you prefer :P )

Lao Kronus looks at the figure that shoved him, looking at his adversary, curls his hand into a fist, when a smaller hand placed his hand over his, gripping tightly. Laos Orunos looks at Wei “This our city too, comrade.” The man was clearly older, but his body and such showed him clearly to be a member of the Cooperative.

“Whatever happened almost two centuries ago is not our sin.”

Kronus watching Orunos, “My family, of which my brother beside me belongs too as well, have been born and raised in this city. Seeing both socialism and capitalism develop. My forebearers blood was spilled on both aggressors that century.” The old-man looking at Wei, stood between both Kronus and Wei.

“We didn’t come looking for a fight, we don’t want a fight comrade. We want to celebrate our city. A city that had welcomed our families after the Storming of Atlantia. And the peace between our nations.” He looks at them watching carefully. Making sure his brother Kronus stands behind him. The Cooperative cyberman and humans some of them attempting to shove back but looking at Foreman and Leader of Cooperative Lantau Laos Orunos. Fall in line, “Right here, on this ground I lost a great grandpa, a great comrade who died defending this city.”

"Bravo, you're covering the secondary protests and the metalhead scouts." The squad leader's voice sounded in Eduardo's mind, and the Guardsman sergeant gave a grin - feeling the systems in his suit powering up and coming up green. Bravo team had been on break - half the squad was thought to have been more than sufficient to coordinate and monitor the situation, but...

"Gotcha, Skip." The Beowulfan thought back. "We authorized to ride?" He'd been able to tell from the captain's voice - she'd had the slow, clipped, overly articulated pace that characterized it. But... "Confirmed. Authorized for level 1."

Eduardo gave a nod, then mentally flicked through his team - assigning zones of responsibility silently through the combination of the drones that were deployed among the protesters in the park, and the sensors within the hotel. Then he gave the right mental pull, and let the world slow down around him, even as he kept stepping forward towards the main room of the conference. His secondary suit, the one he was currently in, was a carefully crafted affair - small, resistant, packed with EW and some weaponry... and cloaked to make it seem like he was just in a normal uniform. And as he took each long, slow step, Eduardo's mind started to flick between the sights of the stealthed platforms - and sensors - that were dedicated to his feed, monitoring the growing confrontation in the park.

Looked like they'd need to send in some local militia to separate the two groups, but the pair of guards he'd assigned there would be able to handle it. Instead...

Alicia's Everblowing Storm he cursed mentally, seeing the head of the Domuian escort start to head towards the stage. That was something they didn't need at the moment. Still mentally flipping through his remote feeds, he let himself step out in that slightly sluggish, slow response that even the lightest use of the Tock made them feel - holding a hand out to pause Yin Eros. "Apologies, Ma'am." He spoke in a carefully enunciated, slow paced voice - though he knew that it'd sound strange in real time, like a series of perfectly enunciated words squeezed together unnaturally quickly. "I don't think a military opinion is appropriate here."

Hopefully, she'd get the hint.

-------------------

"Bull. Shit." Wei snarled out towards the pair of them - Orunos and Cronus, though he didn't particularly care about their names. "Seeing socialism and capitalism develop? Not wanting a fight?"

Wei gave a short laugh, gesturing at the signs the tincans had brought over. "Look at that. Yeah, right. You're itching for a fight with lies like that." He spat on the ground, making a rude Kingston gesture he'd picked up. "There isn't any capitalism in Hong Kong. If you think there is, you must not have paid any attention here - can't say that you're from here."

Behind him, one of the large civilian suits loomed over him, an air of menace around its bulk - and Wei made a shooing away gesture.

"Go run back to your capitalist dens, amigos. Before you start the fight you're clearly looking for."

At the edges of the large park, the first distinctive militia squad could be seen arriving - a large, looming figure in dull armor towering over them.

[Of note - Hong Kong is a fully socialist city, it is not a fusion of capitalism and socialism because the two are mutually exclusive.]

(Socialism = the workers control the means of productions - ie, where they work.

Capitalism = private ownership of the means of productions - ie, a boss or owner owns the place where the workers work, and they're employed to be there by him/her. In the UMC, this is outlawed - all places of work are democratically controlled by the workers working there.)

Edit - and more to the point, insinuating/stating otherwise (even if using alternative definitions of the terms) would be, uh... Not particularly popular, particularly with the more radical/committed leftists living there.

The Head Ranger, “I understand, but I need to say this,” She looks at the Mattibean Gaurd, “you should be keeping a closer look at all your party guests.” She then walks onto stage, and begins to speak, “as is readily apparent this conference and hope this city will represent the chance for a future has failed. While it is apparent that many of this city and of the world disagree with the statement of this being a hybrid city. Let me explain the belief behind why Cooperative said that, in the Cooperative. It is core uniting belief is that spirit of capitolism is a competitive environment. That means fostering an environment an individual can foster and constantly challenge and push themselves to break any and all glass ceilings. While same time being an inspiration to others.”

Eros pauses, “Now I admit perhaps many here disagree with that assessment. But it was that spirit that led many refugees from the Atlantian Beaches, you opened your doors to my brothers and sisters. Sense then the city has prospered and more than it did before. I came this city, to see that,” she looks the Mattibean, “a city I hope that forgave past sins.”

“I didn’t expect you to forget, some scars will never be healed, some betrayals never forgotten.” Then she continues, “and the mistakes of my brother might never manage to be undone this day. But the conference will be coming to a close shortly, all I ask is, even if you don’t forgive the Cooperative do forgive your neighbors.”

“Now, one of my officers asked me permission to engage and break up the riot. As security detail for this event he determined it was his place to do so. I denied him, as I trust our hosts to do so.” She continues, “Now I will neither point fingers or blame. But I asked for everyone to remember, that first person to claim free of sin of the forebearer, to look and remember the history. No one is free of that sin, everyone has been an aggressor at one point. And the point of this conference is both the recognization of this truism and the recognization that a peaceful world has been brought by acknowledgabke and refusal to use said arms.”

She sits, and looks at the Mattibean, then shows the video screen behind her of the riot and conflict at the square, “this was not the environment this conference wish to foster. And my brother failed in his opening remarks, causing only the painful dredging of old wounds. And more. But as this conference will now be coming to a close. And we ‘invaders’ will be taking our leave here. And as we prepare for a new war. We did not want this war, and still do not want this war. But every corpsman, Ranger, Commander or Engineer will give our lives for our brothers. Do not let hate consume you.”

She realizes the last statement likely did not have the effect she desired but it got her point across. She goes to stand next to Pacific Agents.
