Coup In COM

12 hours ago Bulgarian special forces infiltrated the capitol buildings of Meradia (the capitol of COM). They took the central government completely by surprise and thus quickly secured the government. Immediately afterward the President of Bulgaria, Anastas Zhelov, appeared on Confederation television to announce that he has assumed temporary control of the government of COM. He said that the old government of COM was corrupt and weak, they had refused to expand the boarders of their great nation. Zhelov further announced that to remedy the problem of non-expansion the military of Bulgaria had invaded Serbia and Montenegro.

The military of Bulgaria then quickly poured out of Bulgaria to secure the land of COM. As the military of COM had no command structure (most generals were captured in the raid on Meradia) the Bulgarians made quick gains throughout most of COM. Many other state armies were split on whether to help the Bulgarians or to stop them. The only countries that were easily overrun were Syria, Iraq, and Iran. Generals from these countries were left at home as their respective governments were boycotting the military meetings in Meradia for an unknown reason. They quickly put of a stiff defense around their land and were able to hold off the Bulgarian military for a time. When the Bulgarians.

The presidents of Syria, Iraq, and Iran have called on members of the international community to overthrow the Bulgarian coup government, requesting specifically that members of the London Pact intervene on their behalf. In a statement of international radio the president of Syria said that without help the armies of Syria, Iraq, and Iran will soon fall to Bulgarian troops. He also made a request to all members of the Confederation Armed Forces to try to return to land still under control of the Confederation.

Below is a map that shows the current boundaries of the Confederation and of the Bulgarian coup government.

NVC Times wrote: … The Grand-Chief has gone so far as to refuse to acknowledge Bulgaria as a country. As said by the Grand Chief in his war declaration:

Issacson wrote: This so called “Bulgarian Empire” is ruled by nothing more than a band of thieves and cutthroats. They don’t have the right to be mentioned in the same sentance with the great Confederacy of the Mediterranean, a peace-loving country which we have long been allies with. If they go unchecked, and the entire economy of the Mediterranean is turned into a machine of war, no country will be safe. Therefore, at this moment, we are officially declaring war on the leaders of the Bulgarian Coup, and all its allies and associates.

The NVC has sent the following troops and supplies to aid the remnants of the COM against the Bulgarian Coup:

- 15 Small Submarines (Skógar Class)
- 15 stealth general-purpose Cruisers (Nuuk Class)
- 5 large stealth destroyers (Stockholm Class)
- 5 Stealth mine detection Cruisers (Akureyri class)
- 2 Mega-submarines (Reykjavík class)

In addition we have managed to scrape together 40,000 zealous troops, and we have sent 75% of our tank division. Unfortunately, due to our northern position and general defensive posture, these troops are woefully unequipped for desert warfare. Therefore, the NVC is sending its troops through (unclaimed) parts of Russia to the Caucasus Mountains, in hopes that we can hit the Bulgarians off guard and create a stronghold in the icy peaks in order to launch a guerilla campaign. Our industry is also being geared towards weapon and ammunition manufacturing, anything not used by the NVC shall be sent to the COM remnants.

The Duchy of Regensburg will use it's direct overland connection to invade the usurping Bulgarians' territory, beginning with their claims of Serbia and Montenegro. We would also request that the ASI join us in naval action against Greece. Our navy has expanded somewhat in the 8 years since acquiring coastline, but all our aircraft carriers are based in the North, out of range for now.
Army #s devoted: 5,000 regulars + 3,000 more being mobilized.
Air Force: 110 fighters, 60 troop transports
Navy: 3 submarines, 2 destroyers

Landings have begun on the Northern part of Cyprus, occupying the Northeastern Peninsula. Once this is secure, we can advance on the rest of the island, securing a very useful forward base

COM and Allies making gains

Within the last few days the army of COM and its allies have made many gains against the Bulgarian coup government. With the help of the military of Cyberian COM has regained the island of Cyprus. The supplies given to COM by the NVC and Cyberian along with the help of local military the countries of Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, and The United Arab Eremites have successfully thrown off Bulgarian military rule. Meanwhile the military of Egypt has risen up against the Bulgarians. The have not succeeded in reclaiming any land yet, but they are fighting for control of the southeast of Egypt and the areas around Sinai and the Nile Delta. They have been given part of Sudan by the Sudanese government as a base of operations. The military of the Duchy of Regensburg has easily taken over the recent gains of Bulgaria in Montenegro and much of Serbia (As this land was not Confederation territory before the coup I have colored it in red).

In response to all of these gains the President Zhelov has ordered the execution of all captured government officials from Syria, Iraq, and Iran.

Regarding the request of Cyberian to establish a military base on Cyprus the interim government of COM would like to wait until the war is over and then let the president of Cyprus decide. As of now popular opinion is on the side of Cyberian as the citizens of Cyprus think that a foreign base on their homeland could help safeguard them against another such attack.

The DUS has condemned the Bulgarians and sees them as a threat to world stability. However, the DUS is unable to support the remaining parts of the COM due in part to our peaceful ways and small armed forces and also due to geography. After all, we have no boarder and no direct rout across land or over seas that would be easily accessible and practical.

In other news, the recent completion of project Demeter has caused a dramatic increase in birthrate in this country. Depending on ones interpretation, it is due to the larger quantity of food available. Or, it could also be due to the lack of other things to do now that farming requires a minimum of human work. This population increase is worrisome to many members of the DUS as the population increase is predicted to outstrip the ability of industry to manufacture enough necessities to keep the people supplied. the Primary Council, in cooperation with the Secondary Councils are trying to devise a solution to this problem.

International Waters Fleet Pending deployment

Ever since the completion of “the lifeline” the majority of TCMEA military funds not used for development have been used for the production of naval ships. As of now the Ministry of Peace would like to formally announce the TCMEA’s intention to deploy and maintain an “International Waters Fleet”. We feel this fleet will bring us closer to the rest of the world and even though it is dwarfed by the fleets of many larger powers will make us more of a player in international politics.

As of now no specific objectives for this fleet have been announced, nor has its size or make up. We intend, however, to make it useful to any and all nations who require its assistance. In order to do this, we request free movement* through any and all canals, channels, and straits (the Suez, Panama and Gibraltar come to mind).

We hope this fleet will be met with open arms.

*The TCMEA does not wish to be aggravating. Therefore, if you grant us permission to move through your canals/channels/straits we will submit to military escort if you deem it necessary and will try to call ahead before use. We will not, however, pay (in money) for the use of any canals/channels/straits.

Passage through the Straits of Gibraltar is allowed by any fleet, on condition that arms are inactive. We retain the right to attack if the ship is deemed a threat
