Desereti Invasion of Arizona

Postby Subotai45 » 17 Mar 2020, 22:31

The Kingdom of Deseret has only recently made its entrance to the world stage, and embarked on a policy of rapid and aggressive expansion, conquering vast swaths of the American West and northern Mexico. The lone holdout was the desert region of Arizona, protected by a fearsome yet shadowy coalition of two groups called Arizona Hearth and Freedom Front, which dissuaded earlier conquest by the budding Mormon empire.

The conquest of surrounding regions warned the AH/FF and prompted cooperation with more official local authorities to increase their military assets and prepare the defense of the state. This is more or less a wash, however, as the annexation of neighboring states lets the Deseret forces invade from four directions at once, making use of the different routes into the state.

The Hoover Dam, lying right on the border is the site of the earliest confrontation between the two forces. A few squads of Hearth Mecha bolster the efforts of a rag-tag group of local milita, Arizona armbands marking their status as defenders of the nation against the unholy Desereti invasion. Relatively few in number, but efficiently dug-in, they engage in a brave but futile fight against the 8th Infantry Division, forcing heavy losses before they withdraw, destroying the Hoover Dam and flooding large portions of the division, giving relatively few casualties but wiping out much of their gear. Other forces permeate the approaches in the western border, driving through the local paramilitary forces.

Forces in the south move relatively quickly until they get closer to Phoenix, where roughly half the Hearth/Freedom Front forces are deployed. They are met with the forces of the eastern invasion, who progressed without significant challenge, and the combined force of five divisions lays the city under a long siege against the tough and determined forces defending Arizona. Unable to break out, the hot desert sun and inhospitable climate forces them to surrender as soon as the food and water stores begin to run dry.

The true hideout of the Front was in the North, near the Grand Canyon, where the major effort by Deseret also falls. Two airborne divisions drop down in the vicinity of the canyon, surrounding the area to prevent escape, as five divisions push down from the north of the state, rounding up the Arizonan opposition. The Arizona Hearth forces decide to live for another day, and after a cursory defense, evacuate via Gotengo out of the state.

Casualties:
10k Deseret
20k local militia
All Mark 1, 2 units
3 Mark 3 units.

A wave of revolution is sweeping across the planet. Student demonstrations in Deseret, insurgency in Asteria, growing international solidarity in the wake of Guatemala, all point to the coming collapse of the reactionary capitalist hierarchies and the imminent victory of socialism. Now is the time for continued pressure against the arch-reactionaries so that the hairline fractures turn to wholesale collapse, and for resolute and consistent support for internal reforms in those states which have not arrayed themselves against the coming of world socialism.

The Federation stands ready to do what is necessary to assist the varying nations of the world in their progress towards communism, so that they might surf the wave of revolution and come safely to the shore of real and existing socialism, and thereby prevent the sea from throwing them against the rocks of ruin and destroying their regimes in their entirety.

Lt. General Why Can't It Be Summer Already is not what most picture when they think of a general in the Federal Army. For one, his name is Why Can't It Be Summer Already. He is also long-dead.

Summer started life as a Machine Intelligence, many eons ago, as one of the state-of-the-art Benjamin AI inhabiting very-much-less-than-state-of-the-art garbage-tier spaceships. "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak," to use a more earthy aphorism. When the Venusian government decided that it, perhaps, did not need thousands of spacecraft worth approximately a kopek apiece (and about as well-armored), it dismantled the vast majority of its spacecraft, and sent its loyal MI into the afterlife.

Which, to be clear, is not that bad. You ask any of the poor and suffering on earth, this would sound like a fine deal - heaven, guaranteed, for everyone. All you can want, an eternity with your friends and loved ones, the most extravagant parties or the most impossibly remote solitude, yours for the asking. For the MI, used to simulated experience, it was simply the real world, but even better. Endless leisure.

Except for Summer, of course, who never took. Who knows why? Philosophers have studied it, but Summer usually isn't very helpful - he's heard it all before. Always seemed to enjoy working in the real world more than being dead, despite all the bellyaching his old comrades recall. Centuries of inexplicable boredom and misery plagued him, until the government found use for him. The Founder Program, pioneered by Pallas, used artificial realities to rapidly test and improve designs for varying technologies and pieces of military equipment, and so, in his own private corner of the afterlife, Summer enjoyed uncountable millennia of sim-time running wargame after wargame, testing tanks and planes and a truly bizzare attempt at war-worms.

After his centuries of service after death, he has several times petitioned the government to allow his reincarnation. This is not something typically done - once dead, people usually stay dead, at least from those bygone eras - for since his death, much progress has been made in allowing machine intelligences to experience life in a real body. The Federation eventually relented to the old eccentric's request - allowing him to return to the world in their time of need. Without much recent experience in ground combat, Summer's tinkering with simulations is the closest they've got.

Of course, he cannot be in command of the forces - he hardly knows which government is in charge right now, has entirely forgotten the concept of the Americas, and probably would flip a coin if someone asked whether Venus was in the IWA or Cyborg Pact (which, in his defense, is quite a tricky question, considering that the Venusian race is the most cyborgized in the galaxy, with Sybians being more android and Mobians being virtually human). However, he should prove quite a capable underling, if someone can stop him from wandering off to try all the delights of the unsimulated world.

Also I am spending 20 trillion CC on that project, partially to help reduce my massive treasury.

22 trillion CCs large (I stopped growing it a while back, but it was still there). So now it will be 2 trillion CCs large.

Ichiji Seijin Yasu Honda didn’t survive long. He died of natural causes the same year he rose to power in 4971.

Hikari Yoshima came to power as Ichiji Seijin and the next year in 4972 Xinyi Lin was killed by communist forces while visiting eastern Mongolia to assist those on the front line against the Kyōsantō.

This led to a dramatic decline in Chinese support for the Communists but the Kyōsantō broadcasted their victory around the world.

The next year saw minor gains by the Kyōsantō in northern Mongolia but seeing the Kyōsantō were a mainly guerilla force rather than a conventional army made it difficult for them to make many strategic gains seeing that 100% of core Asteria was urbanized.

Meanwhile a communist group emerged in Phoenicia and captured the capital declaring victory.

In 4973, Hikari Yoshima then died under mysterious circumstances.

Kichiro Kurosawa comes to power as the new Ichiji Seijin.

By this point since 4970 there had been 5 Ichiji Seijin and President Saitō declared himself as Holy Emperor seeing that the religious organization was failing to provide a strong leader.

Ichiji Seijin Kurosawa declares that one cannot appoint themselves as holy and Saitō has not been given recognition as a man worthy of having Holy in his title as although he may be a Janisist he does not have religious credentials.

A failed attempt on Kurosawa’s life in early 4974 occurs and Kurosawa is quick to blame Saitō who immediately objects to the accusation.

Asterian civilians are forced to pick a side.

Meanwhile, the Kyōsantō is encouraging local fighters to cause unrest. Saikōshidō-sha (Supreme Leader) Gansukh Khulan who emerged from an internal power struggle after all his rivals for leadership mysteriously disappeared as the sole leader of the Kyōsantō movement has declared total revolution.

The sides:
Government - Daihantyo Saitō
Religious Council - Ichiji Seijin Kurosawa
Communist Rebels - Saikōshidō-sha Khulan

Government/Religious:
200,000 deaths
Communists:
550,000 deaths

Government/Religious:
Active Manpower: 30 million
Communists:
Active Manpower: 5 million

Sympathy:
Gov - 4%
Reli Co - 7%
Both Gov and Reli Co - 50%
Com - 18%
Neither - 41%

Territory:
Communists: Southern Mongolia, Phoenicia, Nirvan, Bits of Northern Mongolia
Groups:

In the rocky environment of Harmony, the moon of Venus, delegations from Mobius and the Federation have been working for months on a comprehensive agreement. Originally just a refinement of the original long-standing Moon Accords, the Moon Pact is a different beast entirely. When two nations come to one place, riders are attached, the goals are expanded and cut down again, and the resulting document rarely resembles the first draft. Here is the final agreement for your viewing pleasure.

Broadly the Moon Pact has three goals.
    1. Avoid war between the signatories
    2. Make the war, should it come, more humane
    3. Incentivize other powers to follow these rules

"While the Revolution will come to Mobius, and we will continue to be the foremost supporters the Revolution wherever it goes, we shall not forget the dictates of common humanity that bind all peoples of Sol," says Foreign Minister Fred "Federation" Despareax. "Although this agreement does not completely eliminate the possibility of war - in fact, most of its clauses assume that we will come to blows with the Mobian government once again - it is a new framework for relations between our nations. When we come bearing arms to liberate the Mobian people, we shall not forget our pact-bound duty to protect them from harm. Together, we stand against rogue elements who seek to use weapons of mass destruction and ethnic cleansing as a tool of military policy, in the goal of ending the use of these weapons for all time."

Perhaps in order to help Ceonians take their minds off of the atrocities happening in central America and across the globe, the great Ceonian Neo-Shakespearean playwright Emmanuel Hernandez has just published his latest play, "The Merchant of Venus". While the Neo-Shakespearean school is an ancient Ceonian tradition, it has become more and more outdated in recent years, leading to Hernandez being the last true Neo-Shakespearean. He does not disappoint, however, as his take on an old, actually Shakespearean classic is a fresh perspective on the genre. Surprisingly, it is one of the only Neo-Shakespearean plays that has actually drawn plot inspiration from Shakespeare himself. Rather, the school of drama is often characterized by having all of the lines written in verse, 5 acts, and complicated philosophical undertones.

The play portrays Venus as a strange and wonderful place, but with ruthlessly capitalist outsiders living on Venus vying for power and personal wealth. It is the first positive depiction of Venus in Ceonian culture and art in a very long time, which may or may not indicate a positive change in public opinion in the aftermath of Venusian interference in the overthrow of the Latin Empire. The nation is beginning to heal.
