Comrades, we have entered a military coalition against Nejaneb. Together, we will destroy our common foe.

The NVC joins this coalition. We will oppose Nejanebi expansion.

Nejaneb, the people of Venus have declared war upon you! Prepare for battle... they cite "Coalition" as their Cassus Belli!

Venus: The New Colossus

Postby Subotai45 » 19 Aug 2019, 03:08

Emma Lazarus wrote:The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Send us your huddled masses, Venus says. You have had them quite a long time and are doing a very poor job of it, so it is now our turn.

The silvered gates of Venus are being thrown wide open to people of every race, creed, and nationality. All those who wish to participate in the Federal experiment, in a society where all are equals and none are greater than any other, will be greeted with the warmest and most generous welcome that the shared wealth of the common man can create. Before they have even crossed fully our threshold, the Federal health service will give them all they need to prosper on Venus, the Mother of Exiles. The specter of disease, long banished from our planets, will cease to haunt those who flock to our planetary shores. The threat of violence and theft, exploitation or murder, will be dispelled, on a planet where crime has vanished into the history books. Their happiness will be guaranteed in their perpetuity, in a government-guaranteed afterlife that respects their freedom of religion and adopts their view of Heaven.

The Federation will work tirelessly on behalf of the workers of the world, in every way possible. We will work directly for all those who reach our borders and integrate them swiftly into our shared lives, and we will work on behalf of the international proletariat. We will work with our socialist allies to strengthen the Revolution as it stands, and we will engage in dialogue with our friends who have not yet seen the light, so that one day, they will join us in fraternal socialist brotherhood of their own free will. And we will bide our time until it is time to smash the true reactionaries by force of arms, and in so doing, liberate the worker from their shackles.

OOC: This is, of course, pop-neutral explained with some babble about birth rates. I just want a more diverse (in some ways) country - hard to be the Universal defender of the worker if I'm a bunch of historically racist Venusians. I'm trying to change Venusian from being an ethnic group (all the same language, history, etc) to being a species with many ethnic groups. So all people who come will be turned Venusian - gene-mods, enhanced brains, whatever - but they'll keep their language, culture, etc, and turn me into a bit of a melting pot - the same way that there's a lotta different immigrant groups that make up America, but we're all human, the same species.

If any player-countries would like their citizenry to be represented in the new Venus, send 'em over. I'll largely draw from white space (Russia, America, whatever) but if you want there to be a "Little Cyon" or "Mobiustown" filled with people who speak Baunairi or Japanese or whatever then I'd love to have them. They will, of course, be my citizens (like the Venusian immigrants to the PCG are Jon's) and IC, I'm going to be giving everyone SoM/PS and the brain inserts so like, maybe don't try sending spies. But yeah - time to turn this place into a utopia.

The Union Government of Sybus has expanded one step closer to its eventual goal of reuniting the Sybian lands under one free and socialist government. A collection of asteroids with 20 million socialist inhabitants from throughout the Cooperative have been ceded from the Cooperative to the Union Government. The Universal People's Federation, seeing the growing strength of Sybian socialism, is assured that the revolution in the machine nation is not far away, and no longer desires to grant legitimacy to the government of the Cooperative through Federal stock ownership. The stock has been reallocated elsewhere after the Federation relinquished it.

The Chairman of the Council of Unions praises the deal for lifting tens of millions out of desperate and oppressed poverty. Soon, all the citizens of the Cooperative will enjoy Federal freedom.

1962 after the election of President Morioka, protestors took to the street to ask for more say in the government. While the Janisist community has a 76% approval rating of the government, Buddhists and Shintoists have a 41% approval rating and no other group has a large enough segment for it to be polled but collectively have a dismal 16%.

While the economy is good and pacifistic. The movement to join the Cyborg Pact has created backlash in the country. “We were neutral! The Seijin made us not!” Protests erupted and Morioka endorsed the protests.

Finally Ichiji Seijin Imai began political reforms.
Ryuji Morioka created a political party called the Kaiyu.
And former President Sakura Fukui announced her opposition to the party and created a political party called the
Shukotai (Despite being portrayed in blue here. The party color is White, it just doesn’t show up well)

While the new political framework hasn’t been worked out exactly the Ichiji Seijin has invited faith leaders from across the country, democracy advocates and Fukui and Morioka to discuss the future of the country.

In other news The Gray Book has been published. It’s a book on faith that describes the inconsistencies of the various faiths of Janisism and rejects other forms including the form pushed by the Government of Asteria. It already has attracted a large number of converts from segments of the population that were harder to reach by Janisism and even has converted a large number of Kakumei-teki Janisists as well. They call themselves the Janï.

What’s SoM/PS and brain inserts?

SoM/PS is “Son of May / Patriot Serum.” It is a genetic modification to instill love for your country and fellow Venusian. The brain implants - more properly NeuBrain - are a series of improvements that allow for messaging between minds, computing power, etc, and lets the government read your mind.

In the dying days of the Empire, rebellions pop up across the planet as opportunists (some would say looters) take what they can from the Empire to sock it away to make life a little easier when the Federation comes. Other think that now is a time to distance themselves from the collapsing regime, and show their loyalty to the new order in advance of its arrival. The Imperial Police are hard-pressed to combat all the minor insurgencies that spring up across the asteroid where a characteristic noble manages to scrape together ten serfs to seize a neighbor's estate, but try to put down the most dangerous revolts. They are not successful - looters reach all the way to the Imperial Palace and steal relics like the bones of St. Evisser and the Silver Throne of Venus.

The Federation bombards any formations of the Imperial Police or military that they notice, giving cover for ten Section 4 commandos to drop down outside the Imperial Palace to capture the so-called Emperor. He and his immediate family are scooped up by the expert Federal police and taken into custody on an SSC shuttle. However, many members of the royal family, several rungs away along the line of succession, but important nevertheless are not captured. As per agreement with Pacifica, refugees are allowed to depart the asteroid, and due to the advanced bureaucratic apparatus of the now-deceased Empire, many royals manage to escape unidentified with competent false documents and flee to Pacifica. The highest-ranking of these is Duke Rodger Shah of La Rioja, nephew of the Emperor.

Another, smaller, but more dashing group breaks through the Venusian blockade in a jury-rigged vehicle they call the Silver Throne. Rumor has it that the fabled Silver Throne of Venus, symbol of legitimacy, was melted into the alloy that forms this craft. Perhaps more startlingly, it is piloted by one "Emperor Dmitri II" who claims to be the son of centuries-dead ruler of the Empire before its collapse. This is certainly false, according to Federal authorities, but Catherine Shah, grand-niece of Taron the Unwise and "Pirate-Queen of Libertatia" insists that he is truly her relative and he did not give her a royal title to make her say this. It too tried to make its way to earth, but was subject to heavy pursuit and was damaged in the exodus. Darting back and forth across the atmosphere to try and reach Mobian Canada, trying to make an unpredictable pattern for Mattibean missiles that may aim to finish off what their Federal coworkers started, the Silver Throne makes an emergency landing in the mountains near Deseret.

The Empire will rise again, the "Emperor" promises, but without legitimacy from any nobles outside his craft, nor even a way to repair his empire's sole ship, he may need to make new friends in order to succeed. Perhaps the fellow theocratic monarchy a bare fifty miles from his crash site near the intersection of the Gunnison and Colorado Rivers could be a most useful ally he thinks, and not a far distance by wing at all. With a wave to his retinue, and his "great-grand niece" the Pirate Queen, this False Dmitri flaps off into the sky, sun at his back, as he takes the first struggling steps to rebuild his Empire.

The captured Imperial family, of the line most Imperial loyalists regard as legitimate, that of Taron, is offloaded in Mar del Plata to little fanfare. The fanfare will come later, in Baun, where the family awaits an unknown - but likely unfortunate - fate. A swift, silent train ride eats up the Martian land as the pleasant SSC agents ensure that no one intervenes in the train's passage. As they arrive at the border of Baun, the fearsome SSC agents pass off the family to an equally fearsome detachment of Baunari guards.

Their fate is in Janis's hands now.
