The Adored One was not available for a press conference today regarding the comments made by the Venusian ambassador. According to Consortium reporters he is involved in personal negotiations with Bal Sarrazin, the controversial former Chancellor. Insiders are reporting that since the latter’s appointment to Chief Magistrate of the Entinates, many within the Synod of Neo are frustrated with this “corporate” political figure, feeling as though he does not have the faith to champion their interests.

Luminaire Orinza of the Warrior’s Guild was the only high ranking official who made noteworthy comments, citing

The Venusians are good, if troubled people. We are glad that they have found a strong faith and worship powers firmly within the purview of Janisis, from whom all spirits and gods originate.

As their wisdom grows to maybe one day match the Baujantecois, the Adored One hopes that they come to understand the utility of grace and silence in world affairs. Doing so will move Sol much closer to the cosmic zenith.

In other news, procedures are being put in place to remove the Cherare Clan from their status as Luminaires of the Laborer Guild. They have been found to have been experimenting with what can best be described as “dark materials” that go against the Divine Charter of the Consortium and as such are being collected for the upcoming farubolo ritual.

Oh, and free trade with the UPF is over for the moment. Mild tariffs will be established to protect our economy.

We do, however, express appreciation of the UPF's clear desire too help the common people of Cyon.

(Also FYI, you could describe Cyon as a moderate socialist, capitalist-based nation. Within the framework of capitalism, we're definitely leaning towards socialism. We try very hard to protect the rights of our workers.

Just so you know. Make whatever accusations you want, we're probably one of the most socialist of the capitalists. Yes, we have a royal family, but for all practical purposes, they're just glorified amvassadors.

Your tariffs went actually have much of an effect. Also, the tariffs we imposed are really very moderate, and shouldn't hurt the economy of Arcadia much. It's more of just making clear that there is no free trade between us and Arcadia, and an expression of displeasure at their response. If they had simply and politely refused my offer, there would have been no raised tariffs.)

The 1st Consul has no comment at this time other than that Arcadia will be held in contempt for their hostility, verbal or otherwise.

(Just for the record, unions in the US are protected by law, and are not currently widely spread. ;) )

*Social Democratic

You aren't socialist if you're capitalist - eg, the nordic countries today are social democratic, not socialist.

Technically, yes. I merely intend to make clear that we're pretty socialist (ideologically) for social democrats. We're not Socialist in the Communist or Marxist sense.

Unions are highly encouraged in the Imperium.

Are there no social tensions within the Imperium then, politically - because you are saying you're somewhat more on the leftist side of SocDems, but then you also have a massive chunk of wealth and power inherited by your aristocracy, even in just a political sense (the 1/4 of your Senate that's inherited seats) - along with fairly low spending on healthcare (~500 CC/person I think) or large social welfare programs.

Especially if you have actual unions (and not toothless ones), that type of massive wealth and power inequality would be... forced to reform if it's a heavily left-wing social democracy, I'd think. Unless your millions of terminator police bots are being used to prop up the aristocrats, but that's not a very good social democracy ;)

To be really fair, the House of Lords is likely to face some serious reforms in the near future. I'm planning on separating them from the Senate and taking away a lot of their power, allowing them only to vote to propose bills, not actually pass them. In a hundred years or so, nobility is likely to become a title, with no real power attached.

I hadn't actually realized that my Healthcare spending was so low. I'll likely try to reform that as soon as I can. Maybe I'll do that once I begin my planet-wide mining operation.

I'll take a look at the budget sometime to make sure it accurately reflects my vision.
