With this new de-population event coming-up, perhaps it would be useful to start a new thread so all the relevant information could be posted there (we could call it "de-pop" for now and come up with a snappier title for events further down the line - The Tribulation of Sol, for example).

As we RP the thing out, major events - like a rebellion, revolution, natural disaster or virus - could be posted there with the number of total casualties (plus other notable casualties like presidents or other leaders).

By keeping a log of the major events all in one place, we could then use it to summarise the events and add an abridged version to this History thread later on.

What do you guys think?

In the Fourth Millennium...

Postby jonisilk » 09 Sep 2015, 11:50

A brief run-down of the major events so far this millennia...

The dawn of the fourth millennium saw a prolonged peace between Mobius and the RoV, aided by the efforts of the PCG of Mars - a newcomer to the international scene - in hosting peace talks on neutral ground.

While tensions were still present between the two, they did not spill over into anything more than rhetoric and posturing, which allowed for relative ease of trade between all three planets as well as the outer colonies of nations like Pallas.

This allowed for the PCG to make great strides forward as an emerging nation, allowing industrial expansion and enjoying cordial relationships with many of the major powers. They also helped to establish the FUN as a diplomatic forum for all nations to address their concerns to the wider international community, which furthered their diplomatic influence.

At about this time, on the South American continent, the Empire of New Columbia also arose. A military dictatorship, with a leader who was not afraid to flex his own muscle on the world stage. His attacks against the Communist Republic of New Japan and Beijing (from which, neither of these new nations truly recovered, despite the efforts of the PCG's Darius Initiative) was decried by much of the international community and soon saw the people rise up in rebellion against their dictator and topple him, establishing in it's place the Columbian Socialist Republic that we know today.

In addition to Japan and Beijing, a few other foundling nations also appeared, but as happens with many emerging nations, they too were short-lived. These nations include the Shitposting Isles (based in the Falkland Isles) and El Beni (again on the Asian continent).

The second century of the new millennium saw the arrival of another nation on the South American continent, as the Cyon Imperium rose to prominence, fostering close ties with both the CSR and the PCG. More recently, the nation of Eleutheriana has also emerged in the North American continent, in what was once part of ancient Canada.

Cyon's arrival (4119) coincided with the first war between powers of this millennia, when conflicts arose between Sybus and Mobius(*), over the regions of Thailand and Burma. The war was short, but left much devastation behind in the region.

Tensions between Mattopia and the RoV also escalated around this time and military posturing ensued, but did not escalate any further, possibly down to the widespread reluctance to see a second war fought so soon, especially in view of the recent re-unification of the Pallasian colonies with the RoV

(*let me know if I've got any of this wrong - I was never too sure who was actually fighting whom down there - also, any other major developments you think I might have missed)

This history thread is pretty long, do we want to start a new one post-Ragnarok? We could do an abridged history of this thread, then start again. It appears that is pretty much what happened here, after all. It is certainly a New Age. We should come up with a catchy title for Post-Ragnarok history like that, maybe Heavy Metal?

Seriously though, I just thought it might be nice considering what we are doing. Cyberrain is really, really old, but still important. Is there a way we could condense the earlier history? We'd still keep this thread, of course. It is a gem of CYOC, and goes into detail. Whatever we do, we should always include links to it it the Main Thread, the Forum Guide, and the new history thread (if there is one).

Just a thought.

I also think an abridged version of the last two thousand years is a good shout, as it would make things much easier for new players to get up to speed with all the major developments of the history (I know I found it all very daunting when I started - tbh, I still don't know much about the second and third millennia).

It'd be nice to have this updated. I'll try and post something by this weekend.

Can we cut out the Shitposting isles? im not keen on them existing since Pez technically was two player nations at the same time, and it was all a joke anyways. Personally, I think its as serious as the MattibaMobian Union

So since the events of FL, important events:

Most everything on Venus (its minor wars into unification, plus we can't forget the mobius=scum moment).
Founding of some new nations (PCG, Cyon being the two most active, with the PMNB as well).
Ragnarok (most interesting: TR breaking apart, kingpie surprising mobius by leaving by accident IIRC)

For wars, there's the Thai conflict + the SAW.

I guess there also needs to be the formation of the Mattibean Union as well, since that's not actually in the history yet. Anything else important that I missed?
