On Brazil, see above. Official IC stance is that every parasite who wished to leave was given adequate opportunity.

We do not regard the deal as null, just as we did not regard Kosnia or Moon as defunct after a change in government and continue to hold Asteria liable to follow it.

You attempted large scale ethnic cleansing that only international outcry halted. Your attempts to claim a socialist mantle are founded in ignorance of actual socialist doctrine or theory - you instead just claim the inheretence of authoritarians. We do not aim to destroy the Janisi faith, as we allow it to be practiced in Venus as well, we just aim to liberate those territories which we are honor bound to protect and secure the rights of the international proletariat.

Sorry for the flash-post.

Wasn't due till 4850. jumped the gun by a couple of years.

I'll repost when it is due (just a finacial overview/state of the nation thing). I've adjusted it to a mid-term update.

PCG Financial Overview. (4840-4845. Mid-window update)

With the passing of Antonio Careca at the start of the decade, Meurig Halloran was chosen to become our 14th President.

The first half of this financial window has seen PCG stock rising with the announcement of long-term mining and large scale construction contracts boosting the economy. If the second-half of this financial window can replicate the first, then the Corporation will continue to stay in a very healthy place.

The biggest focus of Meurig’s tenure so far has been the Holy State’s, actions in Asian Asteria.

After three-and-a-half centuries of peace, the region was thrown into turmoil with the violent rise to power of the Holt State, replacing the democratic system that had prospered for so long, with one that favoured violence and oppression of culture, language and personal freedoms.

Such actions brought inevitable re-actions from the international community, with many heavily criticising the Holy State, while the people themselves revolted over the regimes teachings and tactics.

Events came to a head with the assassination of one of the Seijin, followed by the abdication of another, as the Holy State’s leadership sought to correct-course, following the realisation that such extreme pole-shifts have done nothing to improve the stability of the country, the safety of it’s people, nor the acceptance of it’s new off-brand religion, which many on Mars are denouncing as extremist and heretical to core Janisit beliefs.

Despite these difficulties, the PCG continues to trade with Asteria and the hope among the governing body is that the move to a more moderate position is is more than a false dawn, as Asterian and Corporate interests have become increasingly entwined over the last few centuries.

Not only have the PCG and Asteria colonised the Trappist-1 and Teegardens systems together, but the Corporation also has an exclusive mining rights contract to look forward to in the Asterian owned system, Struve 2398, for the next 200 years.

This has helped us move our mining interests out of Sol, to focus on production in these new territories. The PCG has also made efforts to down-size the Sol fleet (any interested parties can send me a pm), though our trading stations and other facilities will continue to operate as normal, supplied with raw materials from these new systems.

Further scientific work is also been done in the Trappist-1 system, studying the incredible creatures, plants, seeds and insects of Super-Gaia (a situation complicated by the planet’s inhospitable gravity, requiring all work on the planets surface to be carried out by reinforced mechs, instead of very squish-able humans)

Needless to say, continued relations with Asteria are important to both the Corporation’s short-term, and long-term plans, which concerns some members of the governing body as Meurig has had very little to say positively, or publicly about the Holy State so far.

He has however, praised Cyon for their actions in protecting the true democratically elected leaders of Asteria’s Naturalist Party, by offering them safety in exile. It’s an offer Meurig says he would’ve made to them himself, had he been in power then and if Cyon hadn’t already done so.

The divide between the President and what some are calling “the old guard” - those who are approaching their final years and can expected to be replaced in the next two decades - could prove decisive in shaping future relations with the Holy State, with a majority of the expected incoming governing body Members, apparently favouring Asteria’s return to democracy, in line with the Presidents own views.

Some also hope that the coming appointment of newly risen Master Teller, and runner-up in the presidential race, Darius ap SaZi to Honoured Council, will help ease this transition and suggest that Darius may prove to be the individual who can better appeal to the Holy States leadership, as one who shares the core values of the Janisi faith himself.

Despite Meurig’s reluctance to engage on a significant level with the Holy State, the Managing Director has instead been the man behind more recent interactions with the Asterian leadership, including that of securing a 3 trn cc contract to oversee the installation of shielding around some 30 major cities over the last 12-18 months, providing a huge boost to the production & construction sectors, with some additional labour being provided by Asterian workers.

Summary:

While some uncertainty over foreign affairs may give rise to problems somewhere down the line, domestically, things are extremely healthy. Shifting the focus of mining operations out of Sol has allowed us to explore other avenues and industries, allowing us to reshape the agricultural industry from the ground-up (excuse the pun).

Our economy remains fairly robust, with long-term contacts secured, Martian unity and co-operation is as strong as ever, and on Earth, South America is still prospering.

In addition to this, it is hoped that our ongoing scientific studies in Trappist-1 may provide us with further advancements in agriculture, medicine, etc, over the coming decades.

For Brazil, my understanding (and I'm not MK, but it is what was discussed among us) was that there *was* a way out for those who wanted to - but it had some limitations, particularly to stop capital/wealth drain. I'm not sure how many actually would have fled/emigrated, but they would have had to leave behind their money/possessions and have to jump through a few hoops.

Obviously MK can override me there.

@Subs: I believe the actual reason that beads is involved in Spain is because of his OOC thing with MK, and wants to have as many borders with him as possible ;)

Well at least it’s better than being mad at MK and trying to get a border with Venus by sniping some land

A new custom has taken hold in the PCG during Dividends Festival, popularised by members of the Craft.

Alongside redistribution of accumulated wealth within the local community, similar gifts are being made to the nearest communities beyond the Corporations borders.

Backed by wealthy individuals, these gifts can come in many forms, depending on what might best serve the the needs of their neighbours (could be a building, social or other such project, or just a big get-together where we lay on food and entertainment).

The intention is to strengthen ties with local communities beyond our own borders and establish stronger relationships with those we live alongside.

This is a charitable act by individuals, not the Corporation itself, but anyone bordering the PCG on either planet is free to make requests of us at this time. If there’s nothing you need, then there’s still a Festival to be had, so come along and enjoy, or we’ll happily bring the party to you!.

The Foreign Ministry of the Universal People's Federation has decided to shutter the doors of its embassy in the so-called Holy State in objection over the oppression of Nirvan and the Asterian proletariat, pending restoration of socialism as in the CSAS or, at the very least, granting of socialist self-government to Nirvan and the establishment of a "tolerated" regime in Asteria. (Tolerated regimes are those, like the Phoenix Corporate Group as an example, which fall short of true socialism, but nevertheless include adequate democratic elements and worker protection to guard against the worst excesses of communism, while remaining more or less neutral towards the socialist camp.) We especially decry the restrictions on individual behavior.

Additionally, the UPF congratulates the new president of the PCG on his election. The world is better when people of principle and the conviction to advance those principles are granted the authority to grease the wheels of change, and we believe that the new Phoenician leader will move his country forward in the direction of democracy, a marked improvement in an increasingly reactionary world.

Minor political disagreements between the government and the Commissar of the Trade and Export Authority have taken recent headlines. The VTEA has taken to recruiting workers' militias as possible mercenary groups, allowing them to be hired through the VTEA mercenary process, greatly bolstering the VTEA's potential mercenary manpower. The government is concerned about the historically lax rules the VTEA has put on arms and mercenary deals, and the possibility of more Venusians being sent to fight on behalf of foreign governments is concerning to them. The VTEA denounces the government as being against the arms unions and the money the VTEA brings back for the benefit of Venus (for centuries, put back into infrastructure). The Venusian population is torn, with more moderate elements supporting the VTEA and the far left demanding the government shut down the VTEA's arms and mercenary deals with noncommunist powers.

Re: Restructuring of the Consortium's Entinates

Postby kingpie3 » 30 Jul 2019, 02:13

After numerous months of deliberation, new political reforms are announced in the Consortium's Entinates. For over a century, wealthy merchant clans in the Janisist nation had been marrying into foreign noble families across Mars, increasing their wealth and prestige. These new lines, typically with commercial holdings across various nations, have been agitating for more political and social rights akin to those enjoyed by the Luminaire Clans. The Luminaires are the founding families of the Consortium, who's resources and military expertise were essential in overthrowing the oppression of Old Baunair and establishing the new government.

Organized to serve as "consulting firms" to the Janisi, they enjoyed significant wealth guarantees as well as political power, which "lower" houses have demanded access to. The Cults of Janisis (which owns the Consortium) has always been resistant to providing increased rights to noble clans, citing their over reliance on foreign trade and often diverging political interests not in line with the faith. However, as the Consortium continues to integrate itself into the economies and political systems of neighboring countries, discussions have slowly trended toward how nobles can be given a role in government.

Thus a new system is being implemented:

National:
- The Technical Guild is being disbanded and rolled into its Administrative counterpart. The Technical Guild was originally responsible for responsibilities that didn't fit neatly into other established guilds such as finance. However, it's duties are seen as redundant and being put under the control of the Administrative Guild, whose responsibilities are largely bureaucratic in nature to begin with. This strips the Hamdouchi Clan of their Luminaire status.

- While the Board of Directors will remain the chief decision-making body for the Consortium's economic development, the selection process for its members will be divided between 2 distinct "spires". The upper spire will be known as the Order of Guildmasters. This will be a body of 250 representatives, 50 from each Guild (Artist, Laborer, Science, Warrior, and Administrative) elected by citizens from that guild based upon geography. Typically, these would be leaders at the local level who excel in their field and have gained the favor of the masses in their guild.

The lower spire will be the Order of the Perquisite. This 150 member body will be composed of representatives from the nation's largest and most influential noble clans. Unlike the more "gruff" Guildmasters who fiercely compete in terms of productivity and leadership, the positions in this body are hereditary and reserved for one's offspring. Most noble clans are in reality groupings of influential merchants and investors with resources in other lands, so this group will have its fair share of competent representatives. Roughly 50 clans will be recognized in this system. The 5 remaining Luminaire clans will have a guaranteed 3 seats each.

Both bodies will agree to elect a board of directors, with the votes of the Guildmasters having greater weight than those of the Perquisite. The Board will continue to be composed of the 12 composite corporations/industries that founded the Consortium. The purpose of the two bodies outside of electing the Board of Directors will be serving as upper level bureaucrats, advisers, diplomats, etc. To be a member of the Guildmasters or Perquisite is to attain a good deal of political capital and influence at the national level.

- The position of Chief Magistrate (leader of the Board of Directors and main representative to the Synod) is to be replaced with the title of Exeveign. The Exeveign's chief responsibility is to represent the Board's interests and be the new "face" of the nation. Though they will have little executive power, they will generally set the agenda for the Board and be its chief diplomat for political affairs. This will be a hereditary position occupied by the House of Zempor, with its current patriarch, Jabin Zempor, being first to serve. His father is the Aresian Emperor Praxis-Nampor and his mother is E'jianne Zuibopault, daughter of the Director of Manufacturing.

- The Janisi remains the ultimate arbitrator of power by appointing corporate CEOs and Entins. They also reserve the right to remove individuals from those positions if they are revealed to be failing in their holy duties. The Janisi also is who the military ultimately answers to, as all military decisions have to be approved through him/her before they can occur.

Regional:
With the exception of the region Costa Martis, 12 Entinates are seeing a reshuffling of power allocated toward the composite corporations. The Entins (which originally served as governors) are going to be reorganized into a board of 3 judges for each region with heightened judicial powers. In addition to possessing the ability to strike out any laws they please with the approval of the Janisi, they have control over the mercenary and police forces protecting the nation (though they can only act with the Janisi's permission). However, their most important function is to manage disputes between each corporation at the regional level, with their rulings being law. In return, each corporation gets one "core" region in which they get increased executive control over. The list is as follows:

Vitae Advance Biostocks (Biotech)- Lesta
Overgraphics Industries (Heavy/Light Manufacturing)- Nelumbo
Nayol Banking Clans (Finance)- Yurameht
Sol Speaker Group (Media/Entertainment)- Costa Ira-Planus
Translight High Concepts (Computers)- Waresoht
Redwalker Union (Construction)- Circus Planus
Gumbrai Energy Federation (Energy Production)- Auqas Foruitus
Weaponeer Order (Military Development)- Preyasht
Learner Industries (Education)- Costa Serpens
Daydyne Rock Merchants (Mining)- Korhal
Inter-People Corps (Support Work)- Terras
Orlaith Trading Corporation (Interstellar Stuff)- Rellakh

This doesn't necessarily mean that these Entinates only participate in those specific industries but for the most part these pairs reflect what they are most known for and where a large portion of corporate investment tends to go. In each Entinate the government will be structured similar to how it is at the national level. Most power will lie with a 100-member Order of Guildmasters with 20 representatives from each Guild. The secondary 100-member body will be an Order of the Perquisite composed of local noble families.

The CEO of the corporation based in that region will serve as the executive, though they are essentially limited to only approving/vetoing bills provided by the Guildmasters (which essentially represents the other corporations with operations that Entinate). Unlike at the national level, Guildmasters are chosen by popular vote regardless of Guild.

tldr: The Janisi has agreed to limit executive power by making herself and the Synod an extremely powerful judicial body. The nobles get some legislative power as a lower house and the Guildmasters (representatives of the Artist, Laborer, Science, Warrior, and Administrative guilds) get the most say in who joins the Board of Directors (chief decision-making body). At the regional level, each corporation gets their own Entinate where they get a larger degree of executive power, but the CEOs that become governor are selected by the Janisi and are watched over by the Entins, judges who manage disputes between the corporations regionally. That's because since every corporation has interests in every region, so they'll make sure no corporation tries to kill it's competition anywhere. The Janisi controls the military entirely. The Exeveign is a new position who is the new face of the nation and leader of the Board. It is a hereditary position currently controlled by the House of Zempor (renamed from Zuibopault) who married into the Aresian royal family. The first Exeveign is Jabin.

The PCG is pleased to announce that mining operations within Sol have now been successfully scaled back in accordance with our desire to focus on planetary mining in our other systems.

As such, our Sol fleet has been reduced from 5,000 ships, to 500.

500 ships each have been sent to the Trappist-1 and Teergardens systems, who will now supply most of our raw materials, though a majority of imports from these system will be from planetary operations, with our space mining making up around 20% of production in each system, and 500 more have also been sent to Struve 2398, where a long-term contract with Asteria has been secured for administration of operations within the system.

The remaining 3,000 ships have been sold to the Venusian government, in a structured deal worth 16 trn over the next decade. The deal will also see KASM taking on Venusian engineers to train in the construction and ongoing maintenance of their new fleet. Many at KASM are elated at the deal, as some had feared for the jobs that might have been lost had these vessels also been sent out of system.

The profits from this most recent financial window, as well as those agreed upon into the next (a total of 19 trn above our standard operating profits), have been allocated to the coming areas over the coming years:

2 trn - To the conservation of the Founding Tree Rainforest and limitation of it’s impact on surrounding areas.

2 trn - Increase in funding to extra solar mining ventures for new equipment, improving safety, working conditions, etc.

2.5 trn - ATD research & development boost in funding for SuperGaia related projects in Trappist-1 (medical/agricultural)

2 trn - Building/Infrastructure projects (Mars and Earth) repairs and new builds

3 trn - Public services - Healthcare and Education funding increases

2.5 trn - Small business capital start-up fund (for initial 50% of company - the Corporation reserves the right to buy out the other half at any time, for 50% of the company’s present market value, or vice-versa). All pitches welcome.

3 trn - Foreign Stimuli funds. (1 trillion of which goes directly to Universal Exports - a Corporate affiliate registered in Asteria for legal/financal reasons - as they look to expand into one of Sol’s leading import/export traders. The rest is available to interested parties with notable projects in need of financial assistance)

2 trn - Unspent. Will remain in rainy day fund until spent, or payed out as Dividends from 4860 onwards.

Confirmed. The Federal government will be divesting these ships to worker's cooperatives of 100-200 people to run independently. The cooperatives will pay back the Federal government with an interest-free loan in accordance with the Social Democratic government's goal to decentralize the economy and strengthen independent groups of workers.

(edit) Also the UPF is concerned about the move towards monarchism that the Consortium has just announced.

The Consortium is attempting to accurately reflect its social demography and act as a melting pot for the whole of Mars. We implore the UPF to be understanding of this and emphasize there is nothing to be concerned about.

In addition to the change of the Entinates’ government, an announcement is forthcoming regarding the new Board of Directors.
