NMRs and Rankings

Postby DrunkWarGamer » 04 May 2020, 02:17

I'm in this game 167131.

I'm doing horrible! I've erred in judgement of relationships and haven't been stabbed as much as just completely overwhelmed.

Its a protected game. Turkey, Germany, France (twice), England have all resigned and have been replaced. A big thank you to all of those who have stepped in.

Of course, the dynamics are heavily changed each time. It looks like I'm going to die soon, are the above factors taken into account when determining a lose to points rankings? Just curious reference going forward in the future and thank you.

Rankings/points etc are based on the result only. Obviously a surrender is a defeat & scored negatively as is an elimination.
From the points point of view they are equivalent.
However NMR’s & surrenders are significant regarding Diplomat or Ambassador status & if players wish to join a group based on player reliability like the Classicists, where some of the best quality PlayDip games are to be found.
In summary you can lose or quit & the points won’t be different, but it’s very significant not to be a quitter if you wish to play in better quality games. A good example is PDL where the games are superb & quitters are immediately removed from the league to prevent recurrence.

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished.

Good job, EricNoland, on persevering and sticking it through even though you are going to die and through all the surrenders. It is a testament to your character as a player. Join some Classicist games or with some players that have high rankings (and low to no surrenders). Those games are much harder but much more exhilarating as the game play can be vicious and cut throat. However, the players tend to stay right to the very end.

Also, this from an old forum post that explained the current ranking system when it was introduced:

"When you are in a game where more than one player has played a country (someone surrendered and someone else joined) the rating of the country for the purposes of calculating your result is an 'average' of the ratings of the players involved and the number of turns each of them played. So the player who started the game as Italy might have had a rating of 1000, but if he surrendered half way through that country's life and the new player had a rating of 800, when the game finishes Italy will be taken as being rated at 900"

So the various surrenders will create some kind of average ranking for those countries, which will then be used to calculate your score at the end.
