Livonian War (4/4) -- Reserves Still Wanted

Postby Shibabalo » 02 Dec 2012, 00:25

Ack, I can't stop making variants. So, this is based off of the Scandinavian and Baltic region in 1560, prior to an actual war called the Livonian War. The four powers are Denmark-Norway, Sweden, Russia, and Poland-Lithuania. I think the main thing this variant has going for it is that every power can (I hope) attack every other power, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this.

Rules
0. All rules in standard Diplomacy apply except in the following cases.
1. The victory conditions are a simple majority of 13 supply centers.
2. The game starts in 1560.
3. Osel and Copenhagen function like Denmark do in the standard game.
4. Novgorod and Archangel are connected by sea; a fleet in one can go directly to the other.
5. Arrows indicate that armies and fleets can pass directly from one territory to the other without a convoy.

Thoughts?

1) True, I added that to the rules.
2) Oh, so true. That hadn't even occurred to me. Will fix in a moment.

Denmark is over-powered, you're map is larger than WW4's map despite only having 4 players, and blue is under-powered.

But I love the everyone can attack everyone dynamic

Actually, the game is balanced, ignore what I just said. You could actually become a legitimate GM if you make the map smaller

What is this, a Baltic-based variant without confusing and ill-defined coast and canal rules, or territories that can only be reached from one other? Where's the fun in that? Now how are you supposed to create horrific monstrosities that make me recognize Bolmen(EC)-Bolmen(NC) as a valid move?

Seriously, it looks cool. How are you drawing your boundaries? I hope you didn't draw all of the fjords of Norway by hand.

Maybe you could lighten up the Swedish blue a bit and/or enlarge the centre dots. I missed that Vasa was a centre at first.
