Heptarchy redrawn

Postby joe92 » 10 Dec 2016, 18:30

With all that talk of Heptarchy it reminded me that after the last game I had taken it upon myself to give the map a makeover. So I've finished that and here it is. The nodes are exactly the same - i.e. all the territories border the same territories - the difference being it's proportional to the actual shape of the British Isles now. I made a change to 1 territory name. I changed the Peak District to Derbyshire. Reason being that the Peak District is mostly between Manchester and Sheffield, not extending as far south as shown on the map, and that Derbyshire is a historical county shown on maps from the time this variant takes place. Aside from that they are all the same. Thanks to Flatley for compiling the list of territory names.

If a GM wants to run this variant using this map just send me a PM and I'll pass it along to you. It is made with GIMP, not paint.NET. I'll also pass along a simple guide on how to use GIMP to make the file sizes nice and small. It's easier than paint.NET once you understand what to do. Having layers and being able to move the units around rather than cut/paste speeds up adjudication I've found.

Map looks much improved! :) Good idea  !

If there's a tool that lets you draw with true arcs, you might try using that on most of the borders between sea spaces.

Look forward to playing a game on that map!

Thanks for the kind words :)

You are right to point that out. It was the main bugbear of mine as well. It was just sheer laziness that I couldn't be bothered learning the paths tool properly so I could do this. But, I have now done the required learning and updated the map accordingly! The OP has been edited to show the new neat borders.

I'm planning on running a Heptarchy game in January if no one else does beforehand. I'll PM you all when that happens. Also, if you can't do January another GM has asked me for the map and is planning to run one in the Spring. Given that it's a hugely popular variant I doubt there will be any troubles filling up both games (I'm pretty sure I'll be putting my name down for the second run!).

Yes, the arc drawing tool made your improved map even better! Nice work!
