Could live games be made an option for teachers?

Postby NealStidham » 20 Jul 2015, 17:25

Just curious: I'd like to use Diplomacy in real time in my classrooms, but as it stands, I can at best set the game to have 12-hour deadlines and then just keep admonishing the students to finalize. There are always one or two students who dither longer over their moves, or forget to click finalize, and it drags the game's pace down for everyone else. It would be valuable to have the site rigidly enforce turn length in a way that I can't feasibly do in person.

This has come up before in discussing Teachers games. Let me ask; would it work if the Teacher was able to end the turn manually? So u would have the ability to end turns quickly, or at a particular time, for instance.

Yes, that would serve the same purpose (at least for me - can't speak for other teachers).

Good! This is easy to do - the facility already exists on the development site because for testing it is very useful to force a turn to process. All I have to do is enable it for Teachers to use :D .

That's great! Would you have to have a game number to implement the option manually, or is that just a function you can attach to School games overall?

The way it is done at the moment on the development system is it is just a line (in red) at the bottom of the map. So you would just go into the game in question and click the line. Obviously it would only show for the Teacher!

That sounds like it would be perfect, thanks.

I think I already did it, but I forget now :)

I am pretty sure I have put the ability on the teachers page.
