Modern Diplomacy Bid Results & Game Start

Postby UpQuark » 03 Sep 2012, 05:32

Welcome to the Modern World. Tensions are high and militaries are on full alert.

Attached below are the bid results – yellow highlight indicating the selected winning bid. I used the Google Chrome plug-in RND for random number generation. The number in brackets indicates the order of the bid in the submittal list. Once again AirsoftAlex and Mouse had the same top preference – this time Mouse won the random selection… AirsoftAlex, Xunti, and Sanguinem each start the game with a Wing unit on the map.

I trust each of you will be happy with your Nation. Everyone got a nation in the upper half of their preferences.

    Italy…………AardvarkArmy
    Britain………Xunti
    Poland………sjg11
    Spain………Kithchener
    Germany………haroonriaz
    Russia………Sanguinem
    Ukraine………Rhyss
    France…………AirsoftAlex
    Turkey………mambam14
    Egypt………Mouse

Deadline for Spring 1995 Orders is Saturday 8 September 2300 UTC.

As with all deadlines, Speed Deadlines are in effect - the turn will be adjudicated upon receipt of all 10 nations' orders (which are not Provisional/Conditional).

Good Luck. The survival of your nation depends on what you do next.

Sanquim should have been in the Random generator for Italy...You didn't highlight him, but even though he listed him 5th, order only matters when the bids are the same for that player...so his 125 listed 5th is the same as the other 2 listed first.

Hope you took that into account.

I did include him in the roll, but noone can beat 100. He got a 67.

I removed the highlight and result because later I then considered the way I wrote the rule:

9.10. In the event of a tie bid, where two or more players have bid the same high amount on the same Nation and both are equally ranked by the order listed, the GM will randomly determine which player receives the disputed Nation.

The tie only needs to occur at the individual bid level, not that all bids of both players must be exactly the same.

It is something I will clarify by rereading the site version...

Again though, blind auction bidding rules state that order only matters for bids when they are the same number for that person...clearly anyone who puts down 125 no matter where they list it...that's their top choice.

8. The GM will then review the bids of all players and identify the most points spent on any power or powers. Where a player has more than one bid of that value for powers not already allocated to any player, only his highest ranking bid of that value will be considered

9. If only one player has the high bid on any of the highest bid powers, that player is assigned that power for the game and both the player and power are removed from the bidding. This process is then repeated for the next highest number of points bid on any power

10. In the event of a tie bid, where two or more players have bid the same high amount on the same power, the GM will randomly determine which player receives the disputed power

I see my rules are written and I have interpreted in a different way. I will adjust my House rules and my approach to be in line with the site version.

It does not change the outcome in this case (I randomize 0-100).

Yes - I notice it looks like a separate province, but it is part of Cairo - the canal runs through Cairo.

Top post revised with new country assignment results from revised spreadsheet, using site Blind Bid criteria and corrected bid.

Britain and Poland changed hands.

Thank you sjg11 for your "sacrifice". We'll have to see if it is a sacrifice or providence...

Oh! CAI does touch ISR. I was confused at that also. Thanks for clearing that up.
