Yes, but many of their markets overseas were diminished or monopolized by British merchants and investors. Especially since the British seized Cape Colony and Ceylon, these important way stations to the Dutch Colonial Empire were lost and fully converted to the use of the British Empire.

true but they only really lose it all after william III dies (then they lose Luxembourg completely)

also is it just me or is Japan ridiculously wealthy?

Japan only makes 25 more gold than you, and they have more than one core region. I agree that it's kinda insane how much money Portugal and the Netherlands make.

yes, but they have few recourse. Ideally, that should incentivise the Japanese player to be fairly expansive.

In terms of total resource wealth, they are fairly low on the spectrum.

You make just as much as the US and more than Prussia. I mean, I don't really care much either way, but if you didn't want to be weaker than Japan, there were a ton of other countries to put down as your choices.

Expanding Japan... maybe I should go talk to the Japanese player.

Definitely. The more souls the merrier.

We're still setting up the game somewhat though, look at the HotW rebirth thread if you want to help out.
