That's actually how big the Hellenic kingdom was after independence.

You see, I think the first independence revolts were on the Peloponnese, which turned into a full out independence war, which ended up winning back Athens and the rest of Central Greece. It wouldn't be until the end of WWI before Greece and the rest of the Balkans got to where they were.

also really considering abolishing industry as a stat (but raising base levels of goods) to force people into war if they want more res. thoughts?

Yeah, the troop types still match the time period. We're only one or two decades earlier than the old game.

I'm gonna do some research in the games that I have in this time period to see if I can recommend some things or stats for each of the unit types. A little something to help the metagame.

Can we introduce royal guards troops? These guys would given to every nation free of charge, but you can invest a certain amount of resources to make them better. Each nation gets one battalion of these guys. Their strength is directly proportional to the amount of resources invested in them. Like if you put horses into them they wouldbe mounted. If you used metal and wood they would get better weapons. Etc.

Interesting idea, I think it would be better (and more realistic) if Royal troops were a thing but were only stationed in the capital - but everyone got the same thing

on the other hand you can invest resources into militia to strengthen your basic troops - by area however a "training period" would mean that there is no production from that province for a few turns maybe?
