I for one am all for going a-viking.

I didn't think I would play another forum game but a lot of the variants look so fun, so I'd like to play please, if that is ok?

As the game is filling up, I thought I would share the starting unit positions:

Here is the map with abbreviations and no units, which you should store for your reference (as the unit icons I made are kind of large, for visibility):

AirsoftAlex wrote:Thanks, and I'm new to forum games, but I have played diplomacy. So my newbie question is: do players who wish to speak in secret contact each other by PM? Is it like a PM is a message in the normal website game, and a post is similar to a public press? Thanks, I'm sure I will enjoy this game.

Ps: is there a way to make the forum alert you to any new messages on a particular section (such as this)

I missed this earlier, but believe I answered all of these questions in this topic:

Another question: can a fleet, say in kha, move to ros in one turn? And in writing your orders, would you have to include the "volga" route? Also, does the lake in ros prevent kha from moving all the way to ald? Thanks

No, the water routes only indicate that fleet movement is allowed and with the limitation of only through the borders crossed by the waterway (armies may move through those spaces in any direction, except when being convoyed by a fleet in that space they are limited to crossing only borders through which the waterway passes).

The lake is purely decorative in function - it is just a continuation of the waterway.

You do not have to specify the route - simply order a "F Ros - Vla" for example.

The only way to move >1 space at a time is via a convoy, where the army may move along as many sequential, convoying fleets as are in line. Say like this:

    A Hol - Kha
    F Ros C A Hol - Kha
    F Vla C A Hol - Kha

Standard rules of Diplomacy apply... waterways act like Constantinople in regular Dip (Mik in Viking).

OK -

    - be sure you have read through the rules and understand the variant. There are also some rules particular to Forum games. Much of this is within this topic.
    - PM system is used for diplomatic communications and turn communications with the GM.
    - game is a little slower than you might find on the main site - and the expectation is that there would be more diplomatic activity with your fellow players.
    - it is a fairly long term commitment - an average game will last 6 months.
    - it is recommended you review some of the games running in Active Games section, or perhaps review some in the Archives, for examples of how turns appear on the site.
    - there are some tricks with regard the system which will help:
      - set the system to email you when you receive PMs (in control panel)
      - subscribe to the game forum when it is created - so you will be notified of new posts
      - be sure to track and meet your deadlines.
      - Enjoy the game and the camaraderie of your fellow players.!
