Currently designing 'Pass the Torch' or 'Darkness' Mafia, inspired by night watch mafia but with some different ideas.

i had the idea of a mafia game based on The Italian Job. I was wondering if you could help me with a few questions?
Has anything like this idea been done before (if so are you able to give me a link to it an AAR so i can see some feedback on how that went)
Is it plausible to run?
and finally how balanced do you think it is?

My idea is this:

12 players (8 town, 4 mafia) However of those 4 mafia, 1 is a lone wolf who has their own victory condition (they win if they are last man standing).
Mafia win if they outnumber town and lone wolf is dead. town wins when all mafia are dead.

thinkng that mafia would be able to communicate at night but not during the day.
lynch votes a per usual. no kill is a legitimate vote.

i wasnt thinking of having roles. You make a fair point there though
Do you think If you were to increase the number of town by 1 (ie 13 players, 9 town, 3 mafia 1 lone wolf) would that increase the balance as it means the town is at least 3 mislynches from being outnumbered by mafia

The balance is usually Town = Mafia squared (and then you take away one if that gives an even number of participants) in my experience if you're playing without roles, I'm not sure how the lone wolf would affect this though, maybe make it 15 players?

Sure you can. Town have to maintain an absurdly high lynch success percentage just to stay in with a chance. They rely on crosskills or protection just for some leeway. And if you're talking about making it pure vanilla, then it's even worse for them.

Everyone here will tell you something different about the numbers, but I would say that town = mafia^2 is still very mafia-sided in a vanilla scenario. Even assuming towns will lynch better than random (which I'd hope is true), you need a pretty high ratio to get near a 50% win rate. I ran a game with two scum factions that was 9:2:2 (Farmer McGrath's Farm). I don't know if that would be helpful.

I don't know if this fits with the source material but: 9 town, 3 mafia and 1 Survivor (the town/mafia don't win if the survivor is alive at the end) seems balanced-ish

Before anything else, I know this is the wrong thread to be posting this in.

I've become a lot less busy recently and if there are any games that are needing another player, I would love to play. I know it's been a while (years perhaps) since I've been on here, and hopefully any of the bad blood I may have caused has been healed by time. Crunk, If you are still around this site, I hope you can forgive me for all of the drama I had caused.
