Cartographical Collaborator Needed

Postby David E. Cohen » 06 Aug 2016, 15:28

Hello everyone. I am looking for someone willing to collaborate with me to create a new map for a variant I am designing. I can devise maps which are legible and useful for play but artistry and more complex techniques are beyond me.

I think mapping this variant is beyond my skills. A global variant, based upon the world in the year 1700, this will likely require map distortion or inset maps to emphasize certain areas of the world (probably Europe, the Caribbean and the East Indies).

I am looking for simplicity and ease of use, but if a little elegance and a period feel can be added, that would be great.

Hmm, I am not sure I have the time (or the skills you are looking for), but just for clarifications:

- Do you have the lay-out?
- Do you have the maps/designs you want to be used?
- Or, if not, do you have an example of the style?
- Will it be used on this forum? (And therefore be bound to certain file-size limits.)

I think the answers to these questions will help you find someone.

Hello Antigonos:

In answer to your questions:

Working on the layout now, but but it would be preferable to work on it from the anticipated base map.

I want clariry and ease of use most of all, with accuracy second and historical feel third. Given those thoughts, I am open as to style, though as I said, a little historical feel would be nice. My website (link below in signature) has examples of variants I have designd and mapped, if you want an idea of where I am coming from, from a design and use standpoint.

It is up to the players here whether it will be used on this forum, but this will of necessity be a pretty large map, so it may well be too big for the forum.

Is this one of those maps with a hundred countries? I might be up for designing the graphical basis of it, laying out the continents and insets with the intended style, if you're interested in taking it from there.
