As a size in pixels, anywhere from 850x600 to 900x775 should work. And yes, that picture you posted is too small but I think you've noticed that! And when you stretch it it just makes it really fuzzy. I think the only way now is to redraw it, sorry! As a tip, don't worry about your lines - just draw them freehand quickly, and as long as everything borders what you want it to and units/names will fit, the size and shape doesn't really matter!

May I make a suggestion - if you're drawing your own map from scratch, make it into one of those forum games where we start into the known world and have to take off into the darkness (actually, I think the variant is called into the darkness...)! That would be awesome!

another imperium stlye game would be great

although maybe start everyone in the center and have them expand outward.

map reveals like FoW but every country can see any revealed space and it will always stay revealed. But the map is totally unknown to the players from the start so they have to explore where SCs are etc.

That's what I ran. Also, exploration was great

Asudevil, when I sometimes think of a new variant (aka evry other day) I usually google maps for that area and see what comes up. For Japanese Diplomacy (never showed, disliked tha map when I finished it) and for European maps, I used Wikipedia maps. They were white with black borders, and were easy to change. On a plus size, they were labeled as well. I can't tell from the link, but if its a map of England (thats all I can see) they would likely have a map showing the regions

I also find this to be a pretty good range. The other consideration you'll have to make is the size of you units relative to the provinces and total map size. I have blank pieces in a separate Paint.NET file (one layer up from a black background) and they work pretty well on a map of the suggested size above.

You can always build a map that's much too large and then resize it back down. This works a lot better than resizing up.
