Modern Mediterranean Diplomacy

This is the place for games which are currently being created and developed, and where the designer is listening to feedback from other players. The game is not ready to play, and the designers are not looking for sign-ups - indeed, they may have no intention of GMing the game themselves when it is finished. But your input is welcome!

Modern Mediterranean Diplomacy

Postby AKFD » 06 Apr 2019, 07:12

Hi guys!

So as we all know, there is this variant in the main website called "Ancient Mediterranean", and it's a 5-player variant set in the Mediterranean Sea. And recently, I have decided to do a variant also set in the Mediterranean Sea, but it's in the modern times. hence, I created Modern Mediterranean!

Map:
Image

Countries and Starting Positions:

SPAIN
A Madrid
A Ceuta
F Barcelona

FRANCE
F Brest
A Lyon
A Marseilles
F Corsica

ITALY
A Milan
A Venice
F Rome
F Naples

EGYPT
F Alexandria
A Cairo
A Suez

SERBIA
A Novi Sad
A Bosnia (Supplied from Belgrade)
A Montenegro

GREECE
A Southern Macedonia
A Athens
F Sparta
F Crete

TURKEY
A Istanbul
A Izmir
F Ankara

Supply Centers: 49 in total (24 owned, 25 neutral)
25 Needed for Solo Victory

Map clarifications:
1. Rome, Florence and Epirus have a West Coast and an East Coast, while Suez has a North Coast & South Coast
2. The Suez Canal (a cyan-colored line in the Suez province) allows a fleet in the Eastern Mediterranean to pass through the Red Sea and vice versa
3. It's possible to move from Corsica to Sardinia, Cyprus to Adana/Syria/Israel and Sicily to Malta
4. You can move from the Red Sea to the Mid-Atlantic Ocean and vice versa

Otherwise, Standard Diplomacy rules apply!

This is open to suggestions and improvements!

Before anything else...clean up those names, it's very visually cluttered and difficult to read.

Yes, I know.

I used Global Flood mode in coloring some pixels because I wanted to reduce the file size. (But this ended up being on Imgur anyway)

I'll send a clearer map! And a map with only names!

You really just need to use a cleaner, easier to read font. And it needs to be smaller in most places.

A font like Arial would do right?
I used Agency FB for this one.

This looks brilliant AKFD.

As others have said it does need clearer and smaller naming and perhaps a few tweaks here and there would help, for example the colours of Egypt and Greece.

Great effort and if you want to play a test game when it's ready I'd be happy to join in.

Thanks Caladrius!
What do you suggest should be the colors of Greece and Egypt?

Also I'd release a clearer map sometime next week!

AKFD

I suggest you use any paler colours for Greece and Egypt, possibly orange, pink, turquoise or something like that.

It's harder to read the map and units with such dark shaded territory backgrounds.

Fine tune it a bit and it'll be great.
