The Second Civil War BETA TEST

This is the place for games which are currently being created and developed, and where the designer is listening to feedback from other players. The game is not ready to play, and the designers are not looking for sign-ups - indeed, they may have no intention of GMing the game themselves when it is finished. But your input is welcome!

Some further analysis of the number of centres available to each power

What I've done is I've taken those relationships marked by a thin or dotted line and said that they constitute half a relationship, and then compared that to the number of centres, including those neutral centres it can be expected to take.

Whilst Odette and Haudenosaunee have the strongest presence, with a ratio of more than three, Mexico has a ratio of only 1.25, which is a significant disparity. Whilst these do not border one another, some notable borderings with a difference of more than 1 include Mexico-Cuba, Mexico-Dixie, Odette-Agraria and Haudenosaunee-Agraria. I'll compile the statistics for standard so that you can compare them

Here's how they compare

Code: Select all
Odette         3.25
Haudenosaunee  3.17
Dixie          2.58
Cuba           2.53
France         2.13
Klemperer      2.13
Agraria        2.08
Paradiso       2.00
Russia         2.00
Texas          1.83
England        1.73
Colle Castello 1.71
Italy          1.60
Turkey         1.60
Germany        1.52
Austria        1.43
Mexico         1.25

This can mostly be fixed by (mostly) removing neutral SCs from the board in the appropriate places, to bring the numbers more in line with standard Dip. It doesn't have to be precisely equal, and nor does it have to be of the same value as standard, but it should really be more level.

One thing I would change would be to move the SC in CLA to EUR (in Paridiso) so that MAR is contested in the same manner as Hawaii. Also you could merge DEL, BAL and DMV into one territory. I think many of the small territories in the east could easily be merged into their neighbors without adversly affecting the rest of the game.

id suggest reformating Mexico a little: 2 home centers abjacent to opposing home centers is a bit too much...

So why not reduce everyone to three centers? I think that'd go a long way towards giving the factions a few extra neutrals to fight over.

I fixed some of the problems; I want feedback on what I have before I change anything else. ;)

Thanks for all the input!

Would you consider separating Baja California fom Sonora and making it a neutral SC? It could be a good bargaining chip between California and Mexico in the start of the game and it would add another SC in the west.

I can't see any difference.

My main question would be why Cuba starts with 5 Scs. From what I see the "Corner" powers get fewer starting units as they have fewer fronts to defend. And Klemperer is listed to have 4 SCs but at my count has 5.

I condensed the east a bit and got rid of more non-SC spaces. CT +RI, DMV +DE +BAL, MD panhandle + WV, etc.
