My only feedback is that i look forward to playing. Whatever advantages or disadvantages any map modifications may bring, they will only serve the overall purpose of the game, and enhance the need for diplomacy. As long as everyone is clear on the map prior to game start. I support whatever decisions you make Willie and thanks for running this.

The thing about the coasts like Stockholm Willie is the point I was making about the map on the ground. If you take a look in an atlas (provided it gives enough detail - or Google Maps etc) you'll see that what looks like a solid area of land is actually hundreds if not thousands of islands, canals, passages etc. Ships could sail all over the place with no problem. The rules explicitly state that the only territory with two coasts is Bolmen.

The canals rule - the Modern variant rule is that a fleet doesn't need to occupy the land territory on its way through but can pass directly from Vat-GoS in one move - PROVIDED that the owner of Bolmen explcitly gives permission in his orders. But VaT-Vas-Ska through Goteburg and GoF-LLad through StPetersburg are Kiel/Constantinople-like canals and have to occupy the province.

And yes please, second reserve will do me fine.

having thought about the issue, I will use the Variant Bank rules to the letter--including Saimaa having one coast, although I don't really see why it needs only one--with the exception that I will make Cop border Malmo.

just a note: the rules will be changed unless three or more players explicitly state they do not want the rule change--meaning that if this was a vote, not voting is taken as a "Change Rules"

I'm with paulus. Having never played this variant, I'd prefer to leave the rules determination up to others who have better inside knowledge. Seconding the thanks for running it, as well.

because two players have agreed to the rule change (and therefore "three or more" rejecting it is impossible), we will begin Blind Auction.

Blind Auctions works as follows:

each player will "bid" a certain amount of points for each country. the more bids, the more he wants the country. each player will get 80 total bids to use, and each player may not bid less than one bid for a country. if a player has no preference, he may say "no preference" and will automatically bid 20 for each country. remember that you are NOT ALLOWED TO DISCUSS PREFERENCES!.

after I have recieved all bids via PM, I will adjudicate them as such: I will do it in rounds, from the country with the highest bid for it to the lowest. for example: if one player bids 77 for Russia, say, and 1 for the others, Russia will be "judged" first. if another player also bids 77 for Russia, then who gets it will be determined randomly.

Sample Scenario:

Bids:

Player A: Russia: 77, Sweden: 1, Finland: 1, Poland: 1.

Player B: Russia: 77, Sweden: 1, Finland: 1, Poland: 1.

Player C: (no preference) Russia: 20, Sweden: 20, Finland: 20, Poland: 20.

Player D: Russia: 34, Sweden: 1, Finland: 15, Poland: 40.

Adjudication:

Round 1: Russia--Player A (determined randomly)

Round 2: Poland--Player D

Round 3: Sweden/Finland--Finland given to Player C (randomly)

Round 4: Sweden--Player B

also, here is a helpful link to Pedros's explanation of Blind Auction: http://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=148&t=20967

and if you see this Pedros, tell me if I did it wrong!

Bids are due in two days: 10:00 PM EST on Friday, November 18
