Americas - Spring 09. Fall orders needed

Postby Pedros » 11 Oct 2010, 17:57

Firstly let me explain one thing about my angry PM of yesterday. When I opened two or three of the posts, addressed to everybody, there were strong complaints about the lack of understanding being shown and about the attitude being taken towards a particular person (unnamed). Since these were the first 'private' messages between any of you that I had ever received I assumed that the objection was to something I had done or said, and spent quite some time trying to figure out what the point was. I apologise to those of you who were not responsible for any of this series.

Secondly, I eventually worked out what the problem was - the rest of you have seen the mail, so I'm giving nothing away. BoomstickS circulate a set of orders to everybody and then realised what he had done, and quickly tried to delete the post. Somebody must have read it and therefore it couldn't be deleted. The debate was about whether or not it was 'fair' to take advantage of that knowledge and change another country's orders.

Amongst it all there was a post from a third player suggesting that the GM should refuse to allow any altered orders after the time of that post.

I have to say that I find the whole discussion amazing. This is Diplomacy. Lying, winding up the opposition, stabs in the back, and taking advantage of every little opening are what this game is about. It would be totally foreign to the game for me to disallow later orders. (And what about people who hadn't yet entered orders? Should it apply to them as well?!)

And also - what if it was a piece of elaborate deception on Spain's part - the (false?) orders, the attempt to delete (but only after checking it had been opened!), and the distress and then anger afterwards. If that had been the case (and if it were, it was extremely convincing!!), BoomstickS would (rightly) have been very unhappy if I'd refused amendments!!

Anyway, back to business. {No NMRs, plenty of movement, and two retreats - both auto-destroys (Chile in Valencia, Spain in GoV)}. Later Apologies for the adjudication error - another retreat needed, by Venezuela from Sar.

Retreat is due by 1000 BST, 0500 EST on Wedensday 13 October

Spring 09: Retreat needed (Sorry!)

Postby Pedros » 12 Oct 2010, 11:08

The revised adjudication and maps are now up. Apologies to everybody, and especially to Venezuela, who now have a retreat from Sar!

Retreat by 1000 BST (0500 EST) please, Wednesday 13th October.

All those who've already submitted orders need to reconsider them, but if I hear nothing else from you I'll use the ones I have.

Americas - Spring retreat. Fall orders needed

Postby Pedros » 12 Oct 2010, 19:30

Venezuela retreated F Sar - ACh.

Fall 09 orders are now due at 1200 BST (0700 EST) on Friday 15th October I recommend that hose who have already submitted orders check them over; but I will still use them if I haven't had updated ones.
