World Map

Postby glacialice » 11 Feb 2015, 04:08

I'm not sure this is the right sub-forum for this, so sorry in advance if it isn't.
Is there a standard, widely accepted form of the world map for Diplomacy or do most people who play this variant often use new maps?

WW4 is probably the most "accepted" version...but there are SO many based on SO many eras depending on what you want to do.

Im running a modern day world influence variant right now.

Not sure I'd agree that WW4 is the "most accepted version", although it has certainly been very popular here of late. I suspect there are few players left around here who remember the three earlier world maps played several times here - Waterice Man GMd two games each of Imperial 1861 and 1935, and Master Radishes (who knew more than a thing or two about it all) was responsible for four runs of World Diplomacy. All of them very much enjoyed - you'll find them in the Archive (though sadly no maps for them since the Great Crash.) I have maps for Imperial, and somewhere I remember rick.leeds getting hold of - and possibly posting - World Dip.

About...2 years ago ?...ish

The server crashed and deleted all attachments on the forum and since many of our GMs from back in the day are no longer around many of the maps are lost to the cyber void of never-never land.

I think I have a couple of maps of one of rick's World Dip games(which was one of my first forum dip games :o  ) I'll see if I can find them if people want to see them, though I think if you can find rick.leeds' website he has all of his variant maps posted.
