Guidance for setting up a Live Game.
1. Advertise first! Make sure you have enough interested people to set the game up.
2. Place the date and proposed start time (including time zone) in the title of the post.
3. Post details of the game - game type, length of live period, whether the game will end when the live period does, after-live deadlines if not, etc.
4. Update the first post regularly to reflect changes, players, etc.
5. Players should be on the Forum approximately 30 minutes before the game starts and should post in the thread that they are ready. Check the game thread REGULARLY and don't leave the site!
6. Include in the game description that it is live!
7. Should a player NOT turn up, remember others can see the game on the home page of the games site - a replacement MAY be found.

Live Game 5 May, NOW!

Postby rick.leeds » 05 May 2014, 11:40

Sorry, not a very helpful time, I know. But sometime this afternoon, here.

It's May Day bank holiday in UK and I have decided to give a Live Game a shot after ages of not playing one.

The game will likely be:
Regular
Classic OR Build Anywhere :?:
Rank/No Rank :?:
Finalise
DIAS
Fog of War :?:
Duration: 3 or 4 hours :?:
After Live Deadlines: 3/2/2 (I know, long, but if we go down this route, I really can't do shorter deadlines); ALTERNATIVELY: Finish after Live period :?:

The items marked :?: are open to suggestions:
- Build Anywhere: would play this on it's own but think it is good for FoW. I would play AoE but this can use up early turns when we're struggling to get the game done on time.
- Rank/No Rank: If we end after the Live period No Rank. I'm not bothered either way for a continuing game.
- FoW: I think, for a Regular/Classic Live game, FoW is perhaps too much... might work well with BA, though ;)
- Duration: This will depend on when I can set the game up, really, but I would prefer the longer deadline.
- After live: I am not bothered either way - if we go to continue after the live period, then it would need to be longish deadlines.

If you're interested enough to put some responses down, go for it. I'll post here and in Chatbox when I am ready to roll.

I'd be up for this. Let's deal with the question-marks :)

1) I prefer rank because (I assume) people are less likely to drop out.
2) I'm happy with long deadlines afterwards, but would prefer just to finish it. How does finishing it after live period work - is it just a draw for all remaining countries?
3) I'd like FoW, if we can find the players to play it. Happy with BA for this purpose.
4) Happy with either 3 or 4 hours, as long as we start earlyish in the afternoon. Going into the evening will be a pain.

I guess if possible 4 hours is best for me, and then finish it after live period. But there's 6 other people who might have different preferences!

Cheers, Megan.

We'll be starting early, I hope.

If the game finishes after the Live period, it becomes DIAS. Would still be ranked if that is the case.

First try now.

The game is:
Regular
Classic
Rank
Finalise
DIAS
Fog of War
Duration: 4 hours
After Live deadlines: 3/2/2 days.

Was going to end it after Live, but as the replies wanted Rank, that isn't possible.

Sorry about having to run out on it. As I posted in Chatbox, the puppy managed to hurt her leg, so a trip to the vets was necessary. She's fine, just sore.

Fortunately, I suppose, the game died before being filled.

I won't be available myself tomorrow. Back at work and that gives me no time to play a Live game.
