A Very SPECIAL Game Thread of Mafia

We are ready to start!

Rules below:
In which I throw my hat into the GM ring. Let's see how this goes.



That's right, I'm turning mafia into an RPG and am taking....ummm, creative liberties from the Fallout universe. In this game, you will create your character using the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. traits from Fallout. Each player will have a character with a Major and Minor ability from their choice of these options:

Strength - gives a town player a vig NK, OR gives a scum player an indefensible NK.

Perception - determines the ability of a random player, with a 2/3 chance to determine a player's Major ability and a 1/3 chance to determine a player's Minor ability.

Endurance - survive a lynch.

Charisma - control a random player's vote during the day (they will unknowingly vote for whoever you vote for).

Intelligence - your vote counts as double.

Agility - survive a NK attempt UNLESS scum targets you with their strength-boosted NK. Then, well, just ask Oberyn Martell what happens when you run into The Mountain.

Luck - Randomly acquire another ability for the day, AND get to reroll if you come up just short to activating your ability.

Did I read that last part correctly? Are our abilities not always active? You did read that correctly you diligent reader you. Your abilities will only be activated if a successful D20 roll is completed. Major abilities will be activated if a 17-20 is rolled, while minor abilities will only be activated if a 19 or 20 is rolled. In addition, if a player has Luck as their Major ability, then a roll of a 16 will result in an automatic reroll to try to get a 17-20, while if Luck is a player's Minor ability, then a roll of 18 will result in a reroll to try to get a 19 or 20.

Rolls for each player with the Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, and/or Luck abilities will be conducted at the beginning of each game day, and any activated abilities will be active throughout the entirety of that day. Rolls for each player with the Strength, Perception, and/or Agility abilities will be conducted each game night, except for Night 0, and any activated abilities will last throughout that game night.

Player's will choose their Major and Minor abilities after role PMs are sent out during N0, meaning that the scum team may communicate with each other for what they want their abilities to be. Players will NOT be informed of other players' roles at the beginning of the game.

This will be a 7 player game with 5 town and 2 scum, though if more/less people wish to play I can make small adjustments to the player ratio. This game will run sometime after Life After Death finishes, though if Damon's or Shadow's games fill up before this, then obviously those games take priority. Any rules not further specified fall under the standard mafia rules of Playdip.

In addition, ties will be resolved by coinflip.

LOL never mentioned Day length. 72 hour days and 24 hour nights.

We are currently in Night 0. Role PMs are in the process of being sent out. Nothing will take place tonight with the exception of choosing your Major and Minor abilities. PM me here or on Discord with your selections before the start of Day 1. Nothing more will happen during this night. If you do not send me your Major and Minor abilities by the start of Day 1 I will assign them to you randomly. Day 1 will begin at 6:00 pm Pacific Time.

We are ready to begin Day 1! PMs are in the process of being sent out to let you know which (if any) of your abilities have been activated for DAY 1 ONLY.

You awaken to a sudden post apocalyptic nuclear wasteland. You see yourself and six other people as you all struggle to get your bearings. Yet, you cannot help but feel that two of you have become suddenly and inexplicably evil. You all decide to try to kill the evildoers before they can kill the rest of the group.

Day 1 will end on July 6 at 6:00 pm Pacific Time.


Please make note of the updated Day end time.

Question! Do I need to go on my usual early game rant about why D1 doesn't matter? I'm personally getting pretty tired of rehashing that whole debate, so I'm going to table it (though I won't stop thinking it) and move on. Sound good to everyone? I'll do my utmost to avoid getting pulled into a rehasing argument.

If you’re Town, you don’t need to do that so long as you recognize that we very possibly need to lynch scum here to have a chance to win. Seriously. We may very well be in MYLO. If we go down to 3-2 tomorrow with no clears and possible vote shenanigans, we may have already lost.

This is a super scum-sided set-up, I think. We have no investigative roles and I don’t think we have any way to make a clear unless somebody avoids a Night Kill with the Agility power.

But, like, do you still think Day 1 doesn’t matter?

Maybe you should ask for a sub until Day 2? If you’re not trying very hard to find scum on Day 1, you’re a pretty serious liability.

Yeah, regardless of your thoughts on D1 in general, recognize that in this specific game we may very well only have one chance to get things right. So today is very, very important.
