Martial Law Mafia - Day 4

Postby shadowface » 14 Nov 2018, 07:17

Welcome to Playdip under Martial Law in a dictatorship ruled by Scumface. What fun!

Let us begin with a patriotic army band so everyone is properly nationalistic:

Now, onto business. You all should receive a message informing you of special laws applicable to yourself.

And the below rules, of course, apply to everyone. Even the scummy scumz! Please review before playing so you don't screw up.

The Law:
Every player* will have a restriction on their posts. This could be anything, really. Restrictions will be allocated randomly and they will not be published in any way: no one other than a player will be informed of their restriction (though restrictions will be revealed upon death). A restriction could either mandate a specific kind of posting, or it could prevent a player from a specific kind of posting.

*Oh, every Innocent Civilian. Obviously all of Scumface's Scummy Scumz will be held to a different standard and therefore able to post whatever they like without any sort of restriction.

What happens if I get caught breaking the law?

Good question:

Image

Is Scumface actually enforcing these laws, or can we just ignore them?
Scumface is busy and doesn't have time to enforce the laws at all times, and won't be personally monitoring the thread to see if the laws are being followed. Fortunately, she has two Scummy Scumz who can enforce the laws for her. Scumface's Scummy Scumz may, up to 5 times per day each, bother Scumface with a PM with a link to a post where they suspect someone has broken the law. If they correctly identify an infraction, that player will die at the end of the day, after the thread closes but just before the lynch is processed. Their vote will not count towards the final lynch.
There is no limitation on when a post with a rules infraction could be drawn from - if the Scummy Scumz, later in the game, would like to submit a link from an earlier day, it is equally valid.

Not that anyone is going to break the law, right?

Just follow the law and you have nothing to fear, innocent civilians.

Other Boring laws:
  • Good old site rules in effect unless stated otherwise in these rules.
  • End Day - Players may vote for End Day by casting an 'End Day' vote in big and blue. Once a majority of End Day votes has been reached, the day ends.
  • No Lynch - Players may vote to No Lynch by voting 'No Lynch'. No Lynch votes are counted like player votes.
  • Ties - Ties will be resolved with a cointoss.
  • Communication - Scumface's Scummy Scumz can communicate during the night only.
  • Questions - If you have any questions, please PM the GM directly. Even if you are a lowly innocent civilian she will respond to you ASAP!
  • Don't use this colour unless you are the GM.
  • Votes must be in FF0000 and large or huge font to be counted.
  • GM messages - Do not copy/paste any sort of message from the GM, including role PMs. If you would like to explain an element of a PM in the thread, you must paraphrase it in your own words. Any breach of this rule will result in a modkill.
  • VCs-
The Innocent Civilians win when they eliminate all of Scumface's Scummy Scumz.
Scumface's Scummy Scumz win when they reach parity with the Innocent Civilians.
  • Nightkills - Scummy Scumz get one nightkill every night phase (rule updated Nov 16 8:50am PST)

Clarifications for you curious and cunning players:

  • The Mafia EACH get to submit 5 reports of suspected rules violations per day. These could be from any day.
  • I want it to be public knowledge that I have run two posting restrictions games before on Discord for live mafia. I suspect people will be speculating about potential restrictions based on those. While they are possible restrictions that could occur in this game, they are not exhaustive at all and may not be the same kind of restrictions that occur in this game.

Still, to not disadvantage anyone who didn't play in those games or are unaware of them, there are the games:

    https://discord.gg/gfHM9eZ
    https://discord.gg/k85w3qS

  • Scum have not been given 'cover' or sample restrictions, but they do have access to a generic town role PM.

It is still Night 0, please continue scumchatting/asking me questions/not caring until I announce the start of day tomorrow.

Hmm.

Hmmmmmm.

I don't know why, but there's the smell of revolution in this thread.

Very strange.

(The real reason this is odd is because an internet forum shouldn't really smell like anything unless my computer is overheating or something, but it's also odd because I don't know why anyone would want to overthrow my regime. What could anyone possibly have to complain about with all those fun restrictions I sent out?).

Anyways, have a good time, and find someone to string up.

It is now Day 1. Day 1 will end at 10pm PST on November 18th, 2018.

Regarding my restriction:

I do not have to speak in a limerick,
but I do need some wordly ar’thmetic.
My posts may take time
as they all need to rhyme,
I’m sure by the end to have shit a brick.

While I hope that you all understand me
My restriction is as tough as it can be.
It seems that’s the case,
so fuck off stupidface,
(please don’t punitive ban me)

Regarding my first thought regarding infosec:

Though some restrictions may be quite apparent,
That isn’t a state that’s inherent.
Therefore you should hide,
lest the scum eas’ly find,
and off you for being transparent

Regarding my revised thought regarding infosec:

But on second thought there’s a chance,
That by making the scum take a stance,
We make them commit,
Then from breach we remit,
And thus do the town’s goals advance.

Therefore, I submit:

Though possibly I could be incorrect
We must now all reveal our restriction
If you differ I mean no disrespect
But I disdain your true-held conviction.
Thus for as long as the town keeps its word
And does not seek to exercise free will
So to death can no innocent be spurred
For the poor scum shall find no one to kill.
In the meantime, force the scum to commit
Do it fast, so they’ve no time for thinking
Don’t fuck up, heed SF like holy writ
With hope soon the foe’s ship will be sinking.

Ignore my iambic pentameter,
I practice anapestic trimeter.

Though I thought mine might be the hardest,
Poor sinnybee can’t even type.
I may have overstated mine’s hardness,
And it seems I’ve got no cause to gripe.

I see Telleo at least thought about not revealing restrictions, but now wants everyone to make them.

I was more thinking not revealing so the scum wouldn't have to even think of committing, and that we might catch them up much later. I don't get why you think it's less likely that scum can catch town players up if we all reveal. Since then, they know exactly what to look out for, and mafia just makes up a restriction. But I guess the cat's out of the bag on that one.

My restriction will be hard for me to follow haha. I'll do so, but it will take some restraint. Still, could be worse. I prefer mine to either Telleo's or Sinny's.

Still, Telleo's and Sinny's restrictions are pretty obvious. I'm guessing mine isn't so obvious at this point, though the longer the game goes, the more you'll likely get the general idea.

I'll go along with the flow here if enough others think it's a good idea. Sinny seems to agree with Telleo, but I'd still like a few more just to make doubly sure that at least a few town think immediate reveals are a good idea. If a few others think we all ought to reveal, I have no problem doing so.
You don't know what I'm thinking...because I don't know what I'm doing.
