Nothing Is Sacred Mafia - D4

Postby shadowface » 23 Oct 2018, 09:21

NIGHT 0, NO POSTING PLEASE :)

Welcome to the game, technically the first forum game I've GMed on this site! Day 1 will start in the next few days, making sure when kim can't be here is a night phase.

Please reread the rules before playing, as there's been an update. Don't hesitate to PM me with questions. Also, if you're having trouble keeping up with the game or you know you'll be absent for a period, let me know and I'll accommodate that as best I can with phase lengths/substitutions.

Player list:
1. UFO Fever
2. sjg11
3. kimpossible
4. nanooktheeskimo
5. Niakan
6. AKFD
7. Zoomzip
8. Fatmo
9. sinnybee

Reserves:
1. shirt

Flips:
Night 1: sinnybee = town Day 1

Day 3: AKFD = town Day 1, mafia Day 2, town Day 3

Night 2: sjg = town Day 1, town Day 2, town Day 3

Rules:
Everyone is assigned a faction at the start of Day 1. The game starts with 2 mafia and 7 town.
At the start of every new day, the factions are reassigned. Thus, there is a completely different scumteam and townteam each day. The factions on one day are independent of any other day's factions.
When lynching, one does not just lynch a player, but a player on a specific day. For example, the town could lynch "Day 2 Condude" even if it is Day 4. Each player&day combo is seen as its own independent lynch target.
Whoever is lynched, and on whatever day, will flip with what their faction was on that day. If they were mafia, the ratio adjusts such that there is one fewer mafia player on the next day. If they were town, the ratio adjusts such that there is one fewer town player on the next day.

A player's victory condition is whatever it is whenever
i) They are nightkilled.
ii) They were on the day they were lynched for.
iii) The game ends (mafia reach parity with town, or all mafia are eliminated).

Other rules:
- 72 hour days, 48 hour nights. END DAY votes mean nothing, the day will end when the GM posts that it is over. If the GM is late to closing the thread, the day continues until it's closed.
-When a player dies, their faction on all game days is revealed.
-Scumteams do not know each other's identities, and as a result, do not have a communication ability.
-The lead mafia submits the night kill target. The beta mafia is bulletproof should he/she be targeted by the lead mafia.
-Unless otherwise stated in this thread, generic rules apply: viewtopic.php?f=307&t=57589#p945395
-Vote like this: Day 1 shadowface (where the day number is the day you want the person lynched for and the name is the player you want lynched)

Rules clarification 2: viewtopic.php?f=306&t=58694&start=160#p963881

Sample Role PMs:
You are a member of the Town for Day [day number]. Your victory condition is to kill all of the mafia. However, please see the rules for details on your victory condition.

You are a member of the Mafia for Day [day number]. You are the lead mafia, so you are required to submit a kill for your team. Your victory condition today is to reach parity with the town. However, please see the rules for details on your victory condition.

You are a member of the Mafia for Day [day number]. You are not the lead mafia, so you can just sit around being evil. If you are targeted with a nightkill you are bulletproof. Your victory condition today is to reach parity with the town. Please see the rules for details on your victory condition.

A couple of rules updates and clarifications:
  • The scum do not know who their team mates are.
  • One scum is the lead mafia, who submits the nightkill. The other is bulletproof.
  • When someone dies, all of their previous factions are revealed.
  • An example of how to vote was added to rules.

It’s late. I’m still a bit sick and have taken my NyQuil (as those of you who played live with me might recal), so mostly just marking this thread so I can come back tomorrow.
You don't know what I'm thinking...because I don't know what I'm doing.

Is No Lynch a valid option for this game?

Good question.

With there being a difference of 5 (7-2) between town and scum, an odd number, it makes less sense for us (town) to do a no lynch.

Btw, I'm town.

However, since it's more likely that the scum team will be different tomorrow than the same, I'm more in favor of punting today's lynch in favor of looking at whose behavior has changed from today to tomorrow, and so on.

What does an odd number of difference between town and mafia have to do with the logic of no-lynching? I guess I can see the logic that if we just no-lynch and let the head mafioso do a nightkill, and then town mislynches on day two, then the town can possibly loose right there, as long as the head mafioso each day doesn't inadvertently try to kill their teammate either of the nights.

Is this the basic logic here? Or were you on some other train of thought?

But I'd think it's a bit worse to mislynch today. Because then, we're pretty much guaranteed to be at 3:2 town/mafia tomorrow, again unless the head mafia tries to kill their teammate inadvertently.

Of course, if someone slips up or anyone gets a legit strong lead/feeling on someone today, then maybe it's worth the risk to lynch today. But if no-lynching is an option, that seems to be worth considering as well, for the reason UFO stated.

Also, this brings up another point. It seems possible that if the head mafia person on one day tries to kill their partner, they will know that that person was their scum partner that day when they don't die (since the other mafia is bulletproof). It's not guaranteed to happen, but it's possible.
