Just checking in everyone. So, I enter with a question.Everyone expects there to be hidden mechanics, right. What kind of things are people expecting?

Hey guys. Quick post before bed. Firstly, I'm not on PST like normal, I'm one timezone over. Shouldn't change much, but just so you know.

Anyways, as for mechanics, I had several ideas coming into the game:

1. All scums. 11 scums would be a hilarious game, and I'm pretty sure that a ruleset is possible to actually make it interesting as well. This idea has been completely torpedoed entering today, as 6-9 of you guys know.

2. All towns. Decent idea, except for the fact that Telleo brought up this ruleset with that in mind in the first place. I doubt she's that predictable. Still completely plausible though.

3. Hidden shenanigans. 2 people die at night, and someone's speaking with a communication restriction. Or everyone gets random items every night, or something. This is by far the most difficult scenario, and playing it by ear seems to be best. I feel like it's rather unlikely anyways, given that it would, in many cases, immediately blow the normal out of this game.

4. It's vanilla. Telleo's been leading us on just for kicks. Highly plausible.

Hey all. I, like condude (this autocorrected from confuse--sorry for any potential future confusion :D ), am posting before bed. I'm on MDT so its currently almost 1 AM here.

I think minor hidden shenanigans are pretty plausible. I would not be at all surprised if something limerick related came up. I don't think it's all that likely that anything will come up that'll seriously impact the game. I also think that, while speculation won't hurt, we can't read too much into things, at risk of jumping at shadows, and are probably best off playing this like a regular game.

All this mystery for a 100% vanilla game would be pretty funny.

Just to say hello all. This is the first time I have tried this game, and am completely bamboozled. Posting also to mark this thread. Can anyone enlighten me? It sounds from other posts like some rules are going to become apparent as we go, so I will keep an eye on this thread. Anything else I need to do? P.S. I read the rules and am none the wiser. :)

Hello everyone! I'm just checking in quickly now, but I have a paper to start writing tomorrow/later today, so I'm sure I'll be on plenty avoiding that ;)

I'm on EDT, but my posting times swing wildly around the clock. Usually I'm on once or twice a day for a long stretch of posting, but the time of day that happens during fluctuates.

As far as hidden mechanics go: I think there likely are some (though it would be a riot if there weren't!)...but I also think that speculating on them right now probably isn't the best way to go, because there is so much that's on the table for possibilities. I think we might end up doing more harm than good--if I'm scum, I want speculation over weird crap that might be in the game, so that if I'm caught in something I can spin a yarn about hidden mechanics. That's not to say that we should ignore it completely, just that we should be careful about this.

GPD: basically, we start talking and trying to get conversations going, and from there we try to figure out who has something to hide. It is, for me at least, kind of a weird phase, the very start of a game, but it's important too because it sets the tone for the game. A lot of the first 24-36 hours are things like Shadow is doing, where someone brings up a topic relevant to the game and we all chime in and a conversation flows from there, and we start trying to figure out who the scum is. Generally speaking, the more talking there is by everyone, the better it is for the town.

In response to Shadow's other question, I am generally pro killing lurkers. Day one especially. If you lurk D1, I think it's reasonable to kill you for it. After D1 I become gradually more hesitant to kill lurkers solely for lurking, but D1, barring a scumslip, I will support killing a lurker.

Let's hope there aren't any lurkers though! Everyone active makes for a much more fun game :)

P.P.S. I am on GMT (or BST now)

So questions:

a. what is a "lurker"?
b. what is a "scumslip"?
c. what is a "scumtell"?

Or are they silly questions?

Also but not relevant - why does this thread not come up on "View active topics"?
