Small note, already added to the OP.

Because non-prems cannot CREATE a premium game, even if they have a premium credit, you will need to join an already created WitA game or ask a Premium to create one for you.

And we are looking to improve this particular user experience.

Im sorry but this is confusing. annual membership is $25 or just over $2 per month.
1 credit is $5
7 credits are $15
10 credits are $30
14 credits are $30 2 blocks of 7

it takes $30 to play WitA or $25 to play unlimited games and variants as a premium member
it takes 1 credit to play any other variant or $5?
are the credit per player or per game? Let say I want to invite 2 friends(non prem) I create the game for free since im a member. Do each of my friends pay $30 each or am I just paying $30 so any one can play?

The credits are an alternative to Premium membership. They allow players to play premium variants with a lower initial monetary investment per player.

Each credit grants one player access to one game. If all ten players of a WITA game are non-Premium and purchase a single credit each, then that session of the game could cost $50. However, that’s the absolute worst case scenario cost wise. Some of those players are bound to be Premium (who won’t need credits), and because credits can be transferred between players, it’s also possible that the credits needed for everyone might be purchased in a much less costly block of 7.

If you have trouble with the credits, let me know. It is difficult to test because of the Paypal link, but we believe it is OK.

It says on the Paypal confirmation screen that I'm paying $35 when I ask for 7 credits. The site recognizes the bulk discount - it gives me the confirmation box of "You are about to purchase 7 credits for $15". Is this normal?

Let me check. It may just be the confirmation screen that has the wrong total, not the actual payment.

Oooo. It was wrong - I think it is OK now. It should say $15 on your Paypal screen now if you ask to buy 7 credits.

I don't like the idea of asking money for a game. 5 dollars might not be much for most of you, but for my family of 5 it is a day of food.
Besides that, it seems quite a lot for just supporting the site.
Are we going commercial?

The better deal is to get Premium membership ($25) for a whole year of premium games.
Or to buy the 7 credits for $15.

The $5 per credit isn’t intended as the most cost-effective purchase but rather a price point that can provide minimum buy-in for someone just trying premium games out. With PayPal fees and whatnot, it gets a tad tricky to go lower than that.

Also this isn’t “going” commercial. The site has been a small commercial business since it started. Premium membership has simply been the only revenue stream until now.

And to put your mind at rest, non-premium play at Playdip will continue to be free as it is today. All this stuff is only for Premium games (like the new WitA map, Fog of War, etc)
