War in the Americas 2: Country ballot, and initial builds

Postby Pedros » 07 Jun 2011, 15:04

Thanks everybody for your bids; the results are now in. (I'd be glad to have any comments on what you think of Blind Auction as a means of starting games in general).

The bids and the process of adjudication are included below as a screen-shot of my spreadsheet, but the results are as follows:-

Palin: Colombia
slayer666: Peru
Tooth1066: Argentina
mr bump: Chile
Willie900: Venezuela
BAMonHAM: Spain
theangrycastle: Britain
AardvarkArmy: Mexico
stalin813: Brazil
RedelMondo: USA

I believe that nob ody was left with a country they positively didn't want!

As usual on this site, the first turn (initial builds) runs for double time, i.e. six days; but my experience is that players in Forum Games don't need this long and are keen to get on with the very different game. So what I propose is that there is an absolute deadline for initial builds at 14.00 BST (0900 EDT) on Monday 13 June, but that there is a provisional deadline of four days, i.e. the same time on Saturday 11 June. I will give approximately 24 hours notice of Saturday's deadline, and at any time before Saturday any player can request that we run the initial negotiation period for the extra two days (I don't mind if somebody writes immediately asking for it!) Post the request here so that everybody sees it please; it will be automatically granted.

Finally, if anybody needs deadlines expressed for a different time-zone please let me know (not too many if you can avoid it!!)

I really like the blind auction bit. It was definitely scary, but this time it seems to have worked out fine. I can see how if a number of people didn't get a high choice for them, that it could lead to sour players quitting, but I hope more games use it in future, it spices things up.
Best to get me at night (8pm to 12pm EDT)

I also really liked the blind auction even though I chose 'no preference' that way the players who really want to play a specific country has a chance to win that country. And the players who don't care which country they are, like me, can vote no preference. :P

Winter Builds, 1900

Postby Pedros » 12 Jun 2011, 13:28

Initial builds are now complete and the Second War in the Americas begins in earnest. The most interesting aspect of the builds is the fairly large number of fleets around! You'll notice that I've numbered the years from 1900, just because it felt OK!

Spring 1901 orders are due by 1700 BST (1200 EDT) on Wednesday 15 June

Pedros, the Fleet in Cli is on the west coast :)

Also RedelMondo, I notice from your avatar that you've already crowned yourself King of the Americas. As GM I have to say that's premature!

I don't believe it. I've got it wrong already!!

Anybody object if I alter that in the next phase?

When I look at the map, none of the red territories (except for NYC) are labeled. Like I said, not a huge deal.
