Definitely not flavour - I prefer home builds for most things. I thought I'd posted this somewhere, but I can't find it now. It was when I was arguing that I wanted to go back to original rules as far as possible that I realised that meant Build Anywhere!

But Chicago must have three coasts - you can't slip round Michigan just like that, and nobody's ever suggested there's a subtle canal there.

I think you can simplify it to two coasts. The only places you'd be able to reach from Chi(NC) would be WGL and Mic, both of which would be accessible from Chi(WC). There would never be a reason to move to Chi(NC) instead of Chi(WC). It looks weird because of the western part of Michigan, but the whole area should work as just Chi(WC).

I agree with DOI -- Chi (nc) is an unneeded complication...

Sorry, I don't agree. I don't see anybody ever wanting a fleet in the area, and certainly not in Chicago nc. BUT if they do, then a fleet in Mississippi can't go straight to nc (for example). It's academic, but the two coasts are there and distinct, full stop.

Yup. If it's still in the outbox, it hasn't been read yet.

That was kind of the point. You'd be creating a coast where no would ever want to move to. Not like Spain(NC), where it's almost always just in the way, but a coast that there is literally no reason to move to instead of the other coast. There's no circumstances under which you'd be forced into Chi(NC) instead of Chi(WC), and no advantage to moving there on your own. You can certainly have a north coast without breaking anything, but there's no reason to.
