Mentor Game 22 June 2015

If you are new to the site, and especially if you are new to the game, this might be a good way to start some games. Mentors will help with the mechanics of the game.

Mentor Game 22 June 2015

Postby rick.leeds » 17 Jun 2015, 10:28

Mentor games are for beginners to play together and learn the basics of Diplomacy and how the website interface works with an experienced player available to answer questions. Any player that thinks they might benefit from a teaching game may join:

  • Looking to play your first game?
  • Have played before, but it was some time ago and feel rusty?
  • New to PlayDip and want to get used to the interface?
  • Been on site for awhile and would like some pointers?
All are welcome. If you are interested in playing, either reply in this thread or use the site PM system to contact me. This game is slated to begin on June 22nd, but we will start before then if we get a full roster. If you sign up this week but do not get a spot, you will be given priority in the next mentor game (timetabled for 29 June 2015).

The information for our current mentor game is below:

Status: Started.

Game No.: 104256
Game Name: Mentor Game 22-June-15
Deadlines: 2/1/1 (movement/retreats/builds, in days)
Other features
Spring 1901 NMR protection: Should a player not enter orders by the deadline for Spring 1901, they will be automatically removed from the game. A replacement will be found.
Draws include all survivors (DIAS): When proposing a draw, all players who are still active on the board are automatically included in the proposal. Draws are only processed if all surviving players agree to the proposal.
Secret ballot: Voting on draw proposals is anonymous.

Veteran players fill open spots from surrenders in our games. If you are a vet and interested in helping the teaching effort, please let us know and we will add you to the veteran standby list.

I am twice on the veteran standby list, and under my old name mambam14.

That might have been my clumsiness in copying the list

If anyone else on the Vets list has changed their name (and it isn't reflected here) please let WHS and me know. I'll change the name on this list (which is simply copy/pasted into a new post, I think). Cheers.

Maybe I misunderstood something but the new sign ups from last week (which I'm one of) were not added to this week's priority list.

Woohoo I'm having a good one. Yep, I simply copied the Priority List from last week into this week's spot instead of removing them from the Priority List and replacing them with last week's sign-ups.

And now I have to add names from the list of those not on the new Priority list, too...

Lesson - never before coffee!!!

OK - mess sorted and PMs sent to the CORRECT Priority Players

If you were on last week's Priority List, you will need to re-apply for a Mentor Game. Details were sent out to all of you and new sign-ups were sent the password so you can't have acted in time, sorry.

This game is now open to any new sign-ups. Priority players can still join the game but the 2-day window for the game to be reserved has passed. There are three people signed-up, a fourth sent game details, so three spaces left.

I should also say that the previous mentor game requires a player so the first person who signs-up will get an immediate invite to Charlie's game.

I could benefit from a mentor game, and would like to sign up.

I think it's great you folks offer this opportunity to players.

I'd be interested in this. I started my 1st game this week (on this site). We are only on fall 1901, and I am stressing out so much. I think I understand all the basic rules and interface, but would like a game with newer people. IDK how to check if that previous mentor game spot has been fill, but I'd be fine with that too.

Thanks for the interest. Game details have been sent to you all.

Assuming the three players above sign-up, that will take the game to seven players - a full house.

If you're coming to this game at this point, please do sign-up below. It may be that someone in the game doesn't sign-up or doesn't confirm and you may get a chance to play the game.

But also, if you sign-up below, you'll be placed on the Priority List for next week!
