Noob question about convoying

Postby LJSLarsson » 13 Nov 2017, 15:23

Hi.

I'm playing my first round of Diplomacy and feel insecure on how to do convoys directly.

Let's say that I have an Army in Apulia, a Fleet in Ionian Sea and want to convoy the Army to Greece.

Is it enough to just give the Fleet a convoy order, or do I also need to give the Army a move order and point it to Greece?

Hi!
You also need to give the army a move order to Greece. Also, something helpful: next to the games tab, there's an orders solver tab that will lead you to a page where you can test different orders and see what would happen.
Never Surrender. Never NMR. Also, screw kingmakers!

For the purposes of clarity, to do the convoy you would d two orders:

Army Aulia MOVE Greece
Fleet Ionian CONVOY Apulia Greece

And if you had a fleet in AEG and wanted to convoy that army to Bul, you'd do:

A Apu-Bul
F ION C Apu-Bul
F AEG C Apu-Bul

I have to admit, I'd never tested what happens if you set two convoy orders that could both work. They do, and they provide backup if one gets cut. Massive waste of time though, as it would be extremely unlikely that you'd need that level of redundancy.
