AAAAHHH FAST (classicist) DIPLOMACY! (Started)

Postby JonS » 31 Mar 2015, 05:54

Yes, yes, yes. I know. I know RIGHT NOW that this is a terrible idea. The worst game idea I've had in a long time.

I know I regularly complain about real life obligations taking me away from playdip - especially last month during my move
I know I took a pass on the webdiplomacy tournament because I whined about being too busy
I know the PDET round two games are heating up, and require absolute focus to not get annihilated
I know I just signed up for my first play by forum game ever and don't know what I've gotten myself into and drew a nation right next to Pedros so I need to be ON MY GAME
I know (but you probably don't!) that i'm about to have two mentor games running simultaneously, and I love, love running mentored games and put a decent amount of time into that

BUT - BUT - BUT - this still seems kinda fun to me? Plus I just had half of my active games finish IN THE SAME DAY, which was weird and left me feeling sad and empty.

And also, I'm no longer moving to Utah! I'm IN Utah! And my baby isn't coming for like - two months. So I have a sweet spot of Diplomacy playing right now.

Okay anyway - that was just me talking about myself. a LOT of me talking about myself. It was cathartic. Thanks for coming along for the ride. Here's the game:

classic, pure dip
24/24/24(!!!!!!!!!)
ranked
random countries OBVS
not anon because MY GAMES ARE IN THE LIGHT NOT THE SHADOWS CHARLIE
DIAS
No weekends for reasons of sanity and marital bliss

Reply here (or PM me) if you're interested, and I will get this terrifying roller coaster ride of a game going.

Only open to Classicists (aspiring welcome of course)

I'd invite the Oldies, but I'm pretty sure 24/12/12 sounds like a nightmare to them...

EDIT: this OP edited to reflect updated deadlines of 24/24/24 rather than 24/12/12 because if it's too crazy for Nanook it's just too crazy

You are a crazy man, my friend!
:D

I would love to play, but while I'm crazy, I'm not THAT crazy. :D And as a proud member of the oldies, 12 hr deadlines gives me the screamin' willies! :D

I probably shouldn't do this...I have the same thing with the forum game, except, ya know, I have Pedros, you, AND Alman as my neighbors...but had two games finish today, and, I mean, apparently the cup game won't be starting for awhile...plus I'm a sucker for people talking about themselves...I'm in!

I would like 24 hours for builds/retreats though, sometimes I sleep 12 hours so that's not ideal for me, ya know? And no, I am not an oldie, not technically at least, just in spirit and sleep pattern.

This is the real reason I'm playing though.

Okay I figured I'd create the game if at least one other person thought this sounded smart. In my experience there is no finer barometer for careful, reasoned judgment then your instincts, Friend Eskimo. So - game created!

100143. Dip at 88MPH

The first six digit Classicist game! Probably!!

I made two critical compromises to basic common sense:

1. Deadlines are now 24/24/24 rather than 24/12/12 to accommodate both the Oldies and the Students among us
2. No deadlines on weekends. With 24 hour turns we'll still tear through this game...the weekends will be a nice breather from the madness.

PM me to join! The classicists have been lucky to get many new members lately - let this really unreasonably paced game be a first test of your principles of game consistency. :-)

Hi JonS -
My only other game is trickling along at a leisurely 3/1/1 pace, so what the heck, I'll give it a go.

PMing you now...

Already up to four players after less than 12 hours - a little shocked. (With password out to others!)

PM me for password! If we get this going quickly, there's still time for me to lose another game for Bauchaille's Classicist leaderboard before the end of the month cutoff...

Hooray! Password sent!

As a note to others - this game was NOT a good premise, and is still filling up very quickly with Classicists with a wide variety of experience. This tells me there's unmet demand for Classicist games. If you want to play a classicist game, create it! There are players out there for you.

You must keep in mind that the name JonS stands out a little. More people will look to be in a game created by you, as opposed to me. Which I know for a fact, as I put out a feeler for a 1900 classicist game and only got one response, two weeks later.

Or maybe classicists hate 1900.
Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse... The climb is all there is. But they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.
