I'm happy to sign up.
If the EU's still free, I'll take that. Otherwise I'm not fussed.
After the happy experience of playing Imperial:
a) I think dividing SCs between buildable and non-buildable (squares and diamonds) adds an extra and useful dimension.
b) Imperial taught us that large powers with widely dispersed overseas SCs had a hard time of it. Concentrated powers did much better.
c) The balance of land/naval forces is important at start-up. Large powers can be hampered by starting with weak navies and small ones can be strengthened by having good fleet-building capacity
d) Creating flash points by placing buildable SCs in adjacent territories adds a further dimension, making it difficult to agree DMZ and creating opportunities for surprise attacks.
e) Russia needs to be strong in the East - otherwise the Chinese have too easy a time of it.
It's perhaps a bit late for this suggestion - but the Sunni/Shia and India/Pakistan tensions could be represented by the creation of a Shiite power comprising Pakistan,Iran, Afghanistan, part of Iraq, Lebanon and perhaps Syria? - with some fairly easily available neutrals in the 'Stans and perhaps south west China to encourage Islamic 'revolt' in those regions.
While acknowledging the basis on which the powers were created, I'd personally dispense with S Korea as an independent power......
